Spider-Man Web Traps Mutant Spider-Man (1997)

Mutant Spider-Man review by justin anderson

the desription: Series 13 brought us 2 strange Spider-Man variations that could only come from the Toy Biz designers. Future Spider-Man, and...Mutant Spider-Man.

the design: Unlike the Man-Spider, this mutated Spidey is much more of a freak. Four legs, four arms, and a twisted body. I'd like to know how he mutated to match the colors of his costume, though. Red and shiny blue, with small black dots covering the body. The eyes match the mask. The left arm ends in fingers, with a claw on the right arm. Two smaller arms sit below, and the hips split into 4 legs- 2 ending in spikes, 1 ending in two long toes, and a human foot. Each of the smaller arms also have human fingers.

the articulation: The toy has 10 joints total. The large stinger bulb can also turn to a slight degree. 6 of these joints have a wide range, but end up limited by the surrounding plastic. The figure stands 5" tall.

The toy comes with a large "trap" spider. Pressing the button on the underside causes the legs to close in. It was mainly brown (prototype images show it red and black).

the review: I think they should have left out the human bits and given the universal joints a better range of movement. Otherwise, a **** of *****.
