Biography

Can anyone remember Pre-Punkt
How about The Brews
No? Well, they sucked but now a similar line-up is now playing in one of the Midlands most talented young bands. Pre-Punkt started when Joe O'Reilly and his brother Dec found two more people to join their band. They were Stephan Cartwright on drums and Adam Gater on bass.
Joe
took the vocal role and Dec played guitar. It was sloppy, out of time and out of tune but people took a liking to it. It had some kind of cheesy poppy punk element which everyone enjoyed. Basically, they went out to have a laugh and anyone who enjoyed it was just a bonus.
They recorded a demo which was very tinny and had some humorous lyrical content by Joe. They played shows with some pretty big bands like Caffeine but did not get too much recognition. The line-up changed and so did the name.
The band were known as The Brews. Members were being added and replaced left, right and centre. Gater was replaced with Kev but not for long as Alex Day took the bass position. Ed played 2nd guitar  for a short spell and the band played some abysmal shows and they didn’t make the best of friends with venue owners and promoters down to their rebellious attitude.
The band were not playing the way they would have liked. However, things changed. A friend of the bands returned from America after moving there a couple of years ago. Joe, Dec, Day and the new arrival Paul Beard on drums gelled together perfectly. The band took a more serious approach, writing harder and more deep songs such as “One falls down” and “C’mon kids”. They played a unique mixture of hardcore and ska.
The name changed to Sense of Urgency and to take the band to the next plateau Dec and Day persuaded the ex-bassist Gater to join on sax. This added what they thought was the finishing touch to the band. The sound they are now producing is incredible with hard guitar chords, and funk bass. Joe and Dec wrote a lot of material about leaving Stoke, waiting for things to change, leaving school and other teen issues.
The band have not played any shows in a long time as they have been constantly practicing an even newer member Tom Mourn who has stepped in to play trombone and add more depth, body and bass to the sax.
The 6 piece are set to record a 5-8 song demo in the next 2 months and play a number of dates with other ska/punk bands. All the shows will be low priced and the band are doing their best to keep them all ages so anyone can check them out.
