This
set of songs is possibly gonna be going on the up and coming
Sense Of Urgency CD.
Gotta
Get
Out
Old
song. Known more commonly by the band as the OI SONG because
of the chorus. It’s a pretty hard song to open with so the
band get it over and done with.
Drinking
and Driving Written
by THE BUSINESS
Written
by cockney Oi band THE BUSINESS. Legendary chorus of “knock
it back, have another one. Drinking and driving is so much
fun”. It was also covered by the PIETASTERS which is where
the horn melodies came from. It’s a proper 2-tone style song
to get everyone dancing and merry.
Why
Is It?
Real
old skool song. It was written before SOU existed in the
previous band THE BREWS. It’s been re-arranged and all since
then to suit the horns and a little more ska was added. Every1
always seems to know the words cos its pretty basic but a
crowd pleaser.
Artificial
Happiness
A
new song. In fact, the 1st one with SOU’s new
trombone player Tom. Was recorded on a CD and folks on holiday
all got to hear it. So definitely the most well heard. Cool
lyrics by Joe and a smooth trombone breakdown for Tom to make
sure every1 know he’s arrived. 1st of a new batch
of songs.
Distress
Written by MAD CADDIES
Excellent
slow bouncy song by US ska punks MAD CADDIES who every1 in the
band’s a big fan of which is rare.
Holding
On
This
song goes from slow ska to fast ska and then a real catchy
punk chorus. Vocals are switched between Joe and Dec and
sounds real sweet. Plenty of energy in it.
Time
We
Spent
Probably
the best SOU song to date. Sounds like Chicago ska punksters
SLAPSTICK who are a major influence on a fair few members.
Joe’s voice sounds hoarse and almost perfect and harmonizes
impressively with Dec on the chorus. Fast song with a nice
ska/reggae breakdown.
I
Can See
Newest
SOU song to date. LESS THAN JAKE style verse, emo kind of
chorus. Still working on it but they still played it live a
couple of times.
1234-1234
Written by Catch 22
An
SOU trademark is to finish with a song everyone can come up on
stage and sing to whether they know it or not. All you need is
a chorus peeps can sing. The band have picked out songs in the
past such as “Bro Hymn Tribute” (Pennywise) to finish with.
But 1234 seems more upbeat and it always attracts people to come
on stage and if they’re up to it. Dive off. Nice way to
finish.
