MULATTOES
In the UNITED STATES, "mulatto," a word of SPANISH and PORTUGUESE orgin, technically indentifies a progeny of one (1) black and one (1) white parent. Popularly, however, it signifies someone with any mixture of black and white ancestry. Debates over the categorization and status of mulattoes within the racial order in the UNITED STATES began during the colonial era and continued into the twentieth century.

DEAR MR. THOMAS,
I am sorry for the delay in sending you the information I have found on your
request. I have been out of the office for awhile. I was in Houston, TX with my
father, who has recently been diagnosed with cancer.
Ulysses Le Blanc born July 8, 1880 -- I did not find a baptism record. He
married Mary McCarthy Jan. 14, 1903, here at St. Landry Church volume 3, page
298. He also married Madalien Papillon, April 1909 volume 3, page 436. The
record states that he is the widower of Mary McCarthy. The death record for Mary
McCarthy is in volume XVI page 245, Jan. 1909.
William Le Blanc, Jr.--- I did not find baptism records or marriage records for.
Robert Le Blanc, born Dec. 16, 1890, baptized here at St. Landry in volume 7
page 212. He married Elmire Thibodeaux here in volume 3 page 409.
Joseph Le Blanc, born Feb. 13, 1893, was baptized here in volume 7 page 273. I
did not find a marriage record for him.
Henry Le Blanc, born Nov. 22, 1895, was baptized here in volume 7 page 332. I
did not find a marriage record for him. I searched the marriage index for Le
Blanc up to 1945.
I also found a record of a marriage of one William Le Blanc widower of Mary
Merante Pierre August---married Sarah Foard June 1907, in volume 3 page 396. I
think this is William Sr.
Ophelia La Tour was baptized in Eunice, LA at St. Anthony Catholic Church, who
address is P.O. Box 31, Eunice, LA 70535. The record is in volume 4 page 116.
Lee La Tour was also baptized in Eunice at St. Anthony in volume 5 page 52. You
will have to write to St. Anthony's Church for these records. The research was
one and a half hours, so the $14.00 you sent will cover the cost. The
certificates are $4.00 each. Please let me know which ones you would like to
have. I did not research death records for Robert, Joseph, or Henry Le Blanc. I
will await your reply.
Sincerely,
Jonie
