I glanced at my local newspaper as I do rarely in hopes that there is anything of interest amongst the high school sports and other sports in general only to see the sub headline, "Bush to propose eliminating overtime". Yet at the same time the new plan allows an 80 hour work week, find out the deal here. This is a horrible idea. My parents both work in factories on assembly lines and working overtime is a regular thing. They both need it to help cover things we need. Our family is in no way needy but we're not exactly well off. We have nice things but only because my parents have been responsible most of their working lives and saved money and done things like overtime and skipped days off to make the extra and put it away. With Bush's new load of crap they'll be out that extra 1.5x pay and could even be forced to work 80 hours one week and none the next week.
My mom is almost 50 and works on a Ford assembly line. She is in the UAW thankfully. Because she has numerous physical problems whether it's her back or her hands, but I bet she still gets her job done, my mom is not one of those union workers the Republicans want you to think of, abusing workman's comp and never working. Granted there are some like that, my mom tells me about them, but the Ford company and any other half-monopolizing corporation can stand to lose 8 hours of manpower for the thousands of people they mistreat and screw out of jobs everyday.
I used to say "to hell with unions just work and you'll keep your job", but I've realized that with NAFTA in affect their is no security except in a union. When GM closed many plants to goto Mexico with them(.70 an hour instead of $5) the UAW was founded. These corporations, regardles of their facade fed to us by their PR people, are heartless bastards who contorl money and only care about money. I say shaft them back anyway possible. The UAW should use their collectivity to vote Green Party(Nader is the best friend an autoworker could have in power) or just to make sure they keep those corporations from jumping country and screwing more American workers.
In Japan do you know what their import policy is considered? Protectionist. Why? Because they tax any imports a large amount so that the national goods sell better thus promoting Japanese materials... Good plan right? Yes it is. The japanese market is stable and strong with a huge employment and one of the world's best per capita income, granted the coutnry is much smaller. But what do we do here? NAFTA(North America Free Trade Association), the worst idea ever signed... for American middle class and lower. You see for the rich bastards that own these companies it's great. Move the company to Mexico then import the products back here free of charge thanks to NAFTA. The profits are gigantic. How did this get signed? Corporate puppets like Bush and his daddy and Reagan. Bush Jr. has got to have a very large asshole to house the several hands up his ass mouthing his words for him. And now they're trying to sign onto the GATT which will be basically a NAFTA on a global scale... well at least to America. So the American middle class and lower class will be fucked even more.
Is anyone else seeing what I'm seeing? Rich get richer, poor get poorer. Go grab yourself a copy of the Communist Manifesto by Karl Marx(Communists aren't bad like McArthur said trust me) and give it a read, it's not long at all. But you'll see how the Proletarians(middle and below) and the Bourgeois(rich bastards) are becoming apparent in America. Marx of course calls for revolt, and to reform the government when this happens... I'm bordering that idea, I would love these assholes to grow some compassion and empathy and stop their greedy ways, or maybe the Green Party to gain some power and get things changed, but like Emmanual Goldstein's book in the novel 1984 by Orwell(Click for elaboration), these forms of moderate protest are just a game, an allowance they give us to let us think we have a chance when we don't...
