Catholicism by fear
I was born and raised Catholic. Well slightly, we attended church every so often. We were the kind of family that went for Easter and Christmas mostly. But I never really thought much about religion. When I was in middle school I sortof tried to rationalize God. It was a pretty good answer to the unexplained and the random in life. And if all else failed I could pray blindly to God or blame it. During high school was a basic absence of religion to me for the most part. But during my senior year I decided to read up on the religions of the world. I thought if my religion says they're right(or else they wouldn't have much basis) then what about all the rest?
Well it turns out(as one would imagine) that every religion claims that they are the right one. And most with their God's backing. The Mormons found a book. The Shintoists see dragons. The Buddhists reject everything material. And the muslims saw some crazy guy run out of a cave screaming "LA ILA ALALA ALLAH!"(There is no god but Allah). And none have much proof aside from faith derived down from years of worship alongside their respective book(s). Hindus have the Vedas, Christians have the Testaments, and Muslims have their Koran.
One thing I noticed though in almost every religion. They changed slightly over time or they were derivatives of other religions. I started to wonder why? The first religions were animism based. They worshipped animals and plants and such because that was what astonished them. Then once they knew about animals and plants and things they worshipped gods of love, war, nature, thunder, etc. And now we worship gods that are merely the creators of all and thus explains everything ultimately. And in all cases we are lesser beings at the whime of these gods to serve/appease them.
My point to all this is not to blasphemise all religions just to explain my thinking. It repeatedly seemed to me that all religion ever was were a series of security blankets or blind hope to people who needed an explaination of things around them or needed a reason for being. They found themselves aware of themselves after evolving and realized they didn't know shit and they had no idea what to do. So it appears to me they formulated this "omnipotent being" to be their cure-all answer to anything they couldn't explain. The world moving through space was a giant turtle carrying the globe. The lightning in the skies was Zeus. Most importantly, our reason for being here was to serve them.
I thought of all this and decided that organized religion is ridiculous and the worst in my opinion is Catholicism. All possible falseness aside, Catholicism is the most guilt ridden fear based religion on the planet. The largest religion in the world and its main drive is "you'll goto hell". It reminded me of American media. Control by fear. the image of Hell is a great tool when you're the pope or the vatican in general dictating politics and followers world wide. Regardless I'm am still just a confused person in the religious world trying to find any factual information to make a decision on, but I haven't yet so I'll stay neutral.
