Medicine at a price

Our country's health care system sucks. We may be one of the few countries where a doctors checks your insurance company before he checks your pulse. This is a sad state considering many European countries and even Canada right across the border have national health care systems. If you're American you may not understand this but it equals FREE HEALTH CARE. That's right, something goes wrong you head to the hospital and they help you with no concern for money. And the bill is footed by the government. It's an amazing concept accomplished through a system based on socialism or even *GASP* communism. In these systems people pay more taxes(All Americans huff and walk away) but get many benefits for the community.
In France, for example, people could pay as much as 60% tax. A hefty amount but they recieve all health care for free, free public gyms and spas, and a nice public transit system. Think of it, you think you have a cold, goto the doctor for free and get something for it. Here you have to make sure your doctor will take HMO(or whatever insurance you have) then pay the $10 fee afterwards everytime you go back. As for gyms or spas? I tried getting a gym membership for 3 months and all were over $120. In france the kids under 16 also get a monthly allowance from the government too. The work week over there is shorter and all employers must provide something like 6 work-weeks payed vacation per year plus holidays.
While here in America we privatize pharmaceuticals so that they can up their prices(Bush). Because they pay contributions to our "President". My parents pointed this out to me when they saw how their perscriptions under their insurance ran about $5 while some senior citizens had to pay over $100 each. Forcing that kind of price on senior citizens is screwed up. But I guess capitalism is an equal oppurtunity shafter when it comes to making money. No politician ever has to worry though because they always have the money regardless of insurance(which they have as well). I think they're all just too privileged. They never have to actually deal with the problems lower class America wants solved so they have no sense of empathy. It doesn't mean anything to them. BUT! thanks to privatization of medicines people are starting to goto Canada and Mexico for their prescriptions. No offense to any Mexicans but I wouldn't trust my Grandpa's cholestorol medicines created in Mexico, the water isn't even right down there.
So with people not being able to afford or using 3rd party quack medications who knows how many will go without or die because certain politicians got contributions from pharmaceutical companies...
