MAKEUP

As a serious believer in individualism (as you may know by my "feminism" piece,) I have a problem with anything that detracts from a person's natural, wholesome self.

Now, of course, that is totally excluding things involving the law - whether earthly, or (more importantly) divine... if you are naturally corrupt, then changing yourself for the sake of others would be a tough but necessary change. Anyway, the point is, I think people should try to be realistic and natural, with a sober mind.

Makeup is not a new thing, people have been painting their faces since the early days of man. It is always done to project an alternate personality to others. And things haven't changed today, have they? People still paint their faces to try to look like others. People used to want to look like gods or animals or trees or whatever - but now people want to look like idiotic supermodels.

The word makeup is even reflective of it's hidden pretentiousness. [Note: pretentiousness comes from the word "pretend", meaning that someone who is pretentious is pretending that they are better than others]. Makeup, when broken up, is "make up", meaning that you are making up for your obvious flaws. This is what gets me angry.

Without sounding too cliche, the outside appearance isn't that terribly important. At least not as important as the commercials you watch tell you it is. I've seen perfectly good-looking girls start wearing makeup, and immediately look like a cheap, desperarte little models whose worth is equal to their "beauty". It makes good-looking girls look --

-- worse, and so-called 'ugly' girls look uncomfortable with themselves. It's obviously just pressure coming from the media and other students, and even from their own parents sometimes. I could go into how much I despise the marketing departments forever, but I'm just going to say that it's a very clever move on the 'fashion industry' to make everybody feel like you've been robbed from your nature-given-birthright by... nature. "Naturally beautiful," "it's the beauty nature intended," or other seemingly healthy slogans brainwash innocent girls (and guys, and parents, and everyone) into feeling like you need to fix your horrible appearance. It's a lie. It works. It's evil and it's genious. Don't fall for it.

I don't wear makeup...

People wearing makeup just doesn't happen under these conditions:

- Someone is alone, with no one to impress.
- Someone is in real or imagined danger, when they have their priorities more straight.
- Someone is amongst accepting and real friends or family, and there is no need to pretend.

This shows how vain and pretentious makeup is, and how it is only logical and right to give up on it. It's like trying to quit drinking alchohol. Makeup dulls your senses and logic, makes you look like a fool, and is a poison - just like alchohol.

I hate makeup, and so should you.
