Broadway was the first foreign stop for the international sensation known as CATS. It ran for an amazing 19 years, shattering the record set by A Chorus Line in June of 1997. It started it's amazing run in 1981 and closed in 2000. Broadway was the first place that really had the CATS costumes as we know them today. If you compare the origional Broadway costumes to those of London at the same time, Broadway really is the more familiar of the two. Mungojerrie and Rumpelteazer got it's modern music here, although it took a little while for the two cats themselves to make it to American shores (the song was initially sung by Misto to entertain Bustopher Jones - Coricopat and Etcetera, who was later dropped in favor of an actual Rumpelteazer, dressed as puppets to perform the song). It was in this run that many of the characters were actually "made" for many fans. Even today, characters such as Mistoffelees, Rum Tum Tugger and Bombalurina are measured by Broadway actors like Timmothy Scott, Terrance Mann, and Marline Danielle.
