Polls and Studies

Here I'm going to list some poignant polls and studies relating to recycling that I have found. These are harder to find, so I won't have as many, but I'll put them here as I come across them.

Polls

Recycling Today has some unofficial polls conducted at their website. Possibly informative, but their some really weird questions on there I don't think the standard user would really know how to use.

Studies

This study is on why people recycle, why they don't. It surprised me to learn that more people recycle than I thought - it's just that a lot of them are "light recyclers." Another big reason why people didn't recycle was lack of knowledge about what is recyclable and where to put or drop off which stuff. This can get confusing, especially because it's different for every area. The other big reason was inconvenience. When I think about all the different recycling stations/ areas my family has set up, this can seem like a big deal.

Recycling Motivations and Habits are also the focus of this study. The results of this study are mostly what you'd expect, but interesting nonetheless because they do match up. We find that those with higher education, higher income, greater age, and a longer residence are more likely to recycle. Also reiterated in this study is that people would recycle more if the facilities were more available. If you think about the scarcity of reycling bins in public places, even an avid recycler may not be able to recycle something if they arer not at their home.
