This page is dedicated to the American Pit Bull Terrier and all members of the Pit Bull breed as well as dedicated owners and breed lovers. The American Pit Bull Terrier has been game bred for many years to fight. Starting way back, Pit Bull's were fought up against bulls. Eventually, through out the years the bull fighting was weaved out of the sport and these dogs were fought up against one another of their breed. These dogs were fought for what some people would consider a sport, a blood sport. Most of the time if they did not die, they were they were left behind to die of blood loss, injuries, infection, starvation or from the cold. This is one reason why today the breed still can sometimes have the aggressive behavior (usually towards other dogs) if trained for what it was originally bred for. Pit Bull's are not a good dog for first time owners, they are active dogs with a high-drive and determination that people only dare to dream of having. As I have mentioned with the dog aggressive behavior, keep in mind, not all of these dogs are aggressive towards other dogs or animals, but you cannot hold against what years of genetics have held for them. Just make sure that when you bring a PIt Bull into a multiple pet home or bring new pets into your home, do not leave them unsupervised. As with any other dog, pets should not be alone and given the opportunity to hurt one another if a fight were to come about. Another note you must not forget dog-dog aggression is not in anyway human aggression. Do not confuse the two. While these dogs may dislike other dogs, they crave, they strive for human attention. They are highly intellegent dogs and want nothing more than to please their master. They are affectionate, loving, loyal companions, so please make the right decision to treat your dog as loyal as it treats you.In general, a Pit Bull is an all-around great dog. Pit Bull's are wonderful dogs and will not attack if trained correctly as any other dog. Pit Bull's aren't for everyone. If you do not have the time to well socialize and train your Pit Bull, then I would advise to not get one. Read up on the breed and understand before owning it. They are unbelievable dogs.. I won't go to anything else. I think the best thing is being owned by a Pit Bull, they have me trained well!!! |
