GORDITAS PRESS RELEASE
January 19, 2002

[Comments from the Prime Minister of Gorditas]

“I have just come from an emergency meeting with my Cabinet Ministers. We are aware of the situation that is building in the Buenos Altos/Meijing region. Upon hearing the news about the SPQJ invasion into Buenos Altos and occupied Meijing, I personally contacted the SPQJ charge d'affairs (ambassador) in Gorditas about the matter. As you know, the entire region is still rebuilding and the situation between Rattanjeetland, Lindsholm and myself is still fragile to put it mildly.

“Gorditas does not support SPQJ's actions and I respectfully requested that SPQJ withdraw its forces to prevent re-escalation of hostilities. In our discussion, I sent the SPQJ ambassador all information we had about our negotiations with Rattanjeetland, including a copy of our proposed treaty to Rattanjeetland. We believe the terms we proposed over what will happen to Meijing and Buenos Altos are fair and just. The motion to make our proposal or parts of it public to the Mapp is currently being considered but will require a consultation with the Supreme Viceroy of Lindsholm. I tried to reassure to the ambassador that our intentions for Meijing and Buenos Altos are friendly and righteous, which we believe is clearly seen in our proposed terms. Despite this reassurance, I was not impressed with the response I received from the SPQJ ambassador.

I have also contacted the Prime Chancellor of Marcusburg and have learned that his discussions with SPQJ have not gone smoothly either. Our biggest concern at the moment is for the citizens of Meijing who are under occupation once again.

“Although I do not understand SPQJ's desire to re-ignite hostilities in the region, I firmly believe that this matter can be resolved peacefully and military action is not being considered at this time.

"After consultation with the Supreme Viceroy, we have decided to disclose our proposed terms involving Meijing and Buenos Altos."
