Marcusburg Press Release
February 17, 2001

"The rain of blood has stopped. As entire nations and peoples pick up the pieces of their shattered homes and lives, every single person – from the head of state to the commoner on the street – has at one time or another thought about the events leading to this senseless war.

"The Great Republic of the Marcusburg Empire is no exception. In the past, the policy of splendid isolation served us well. A simple sign of disapproval or a pat on the back was as far as this great nation would go. Self-interest dictated all avenues of action. Being a spectator on the sidelines ensured safety and security.

"However, events in the past month represent a coming of age for the Empire. The moment at which this nation decided to militarily support its great ally Lindsholm was one in which the entire course of Marcusburg foreign policy changed. Unlike the Great War, the Empire was not in any imminent danger. Rather, an ally was in need. Instead of watching an obscene act of aggression while safely tucked behind a wall of indecision and self-interest, rapid intervention seized the day.

"There is no going back. The subsequent formation of the Platinum Nexus and the fragile Riksholm peace has demonstrated the urgent need for participation and cooperation in international affairs. All powers with an interest in the Mapp have a responsibility to ensure its viability and success. Isolation, contrary to these goals, is no longer an option.

"Therefore the Great Republic of the Marcusburg Empire abandons its policy of splendid isolation and fully shoulders its responsibility as a Great power. Foreign policy shall now be primarily focused on a more participatory and interventionist role in the state of international affairs.

"We encourage all nations to turn to diplomacy and reason before embarking on future escapades of recklessness. We also encourage all nations to become more involved in deciding the future of the Mapp. Cooperation and communication are essential. No one power can act with wanton aggression without consequences – the War of 2K1 provides striking testimony. Let’s not have to prove it again."
