JOINT STATEMENT FROM THE NATIONS OF THE PLATINUM NEXUS
January 2, 2002

When the Platinum Nexus was created, aggressors engaged in wanton conquest and enslavement. Day by day, week by week, small and middle powers fell. As the list of weak countries began to dwindle, the aggressors set their sights ever higher in a bid to dominate the Mapp once and for all.

Although formed in direct response to the threats posed by the bloodlust of Confederate nations in the War of 2K1, the Nexus has successfully protected the sovereignty and security of all its member states for an entire year. However, today the Phoenix Confederacy is gone and the need for collective security against an enemy alliance has evaporated. The political and military aspects of the Nexus are now obsolete.

A clear example of the obsolescence of the Nexus is provided by the recent Phoney War. Because the external threat which had once unified all Nexus nations imploded in September, the interests and goals of Nexus members diverged. Meijing attacks Vaticon City. Buenos Altos attacks Meijing. Ally turns against ally. The rest of the Mapp was trapped in a political world from another time. Internal Nexus countries could not favor one nation over another since both were technically allies. External nations could not intervene without triggering a world war. The Nexus was paralyzed – it was designed to defend against foreign threats, not ones from within.

To move forward and progress, the Platinum Nexus must be and is hereby dissolved.

The objective here is not to bury the Nexus and move on; rather it is the perpetuation of the peace and stability the Nexus once brought through a modern arrangement that suits the time we live in. An immediate benefit of Nexus dissolution is the inclusion of all members of the Steel Glider Bullet Train system, regardless of past allegiance, into a general free trade area known as the ‘Steelzone’. The ‘Steelzone’ ensures that economic activity remains unaffected and prosperity is spread beyond the confines of the former alliance systems. Free trade and the Steel Glider have undoubtedly generated wealth and prosperity for all its members despite whether they were small, middle, or great powers. Just ask the people of Wingtucky who now live in the most liberal and progressive country on the Mapp, and the people of Jangstown who saw their small town evolve into a major vacationing centre. Both these nations were once on the brink of destruction but are now some of the best places to live on the Mapp.

With the implosion of the Phoenix Confederacy, the collective security arrangement of the Platinum Nexus had an inherent danger – were one nation to go to war, technically all member states would also be at war. For a small or middle power, such a technicality could spell disaster as aggressors love to use trivial reasons to justify their expansionist ways. Now, no longer are small and middle powers dragged off to war, instead only those who can afford to fight must fight. An alliance based on collective security comprising Gorditas, Lindsholm, and Marcusburg shall replace the current dangers of the Nexus system. This alliance, the ‘Group of Three’ or ‘GX’, is not, as some would say, a “superstate” but simply like-minded nations working together. For example, GX nations have long believed that there is no room for aggression on the Mapp. Accordingly, the GX shall not abandon its friends and allies in their time of need.

But the Nexus wasn’t all war and money, it also stimulated research. To continue the long history of innovation on the Mapp, five nations have signed a treaty to form a groundbreaking organization based on the free movement of thoughts and ideas. The members of this alliance, known as the ‘Technopact’, hope that the pool of human scientific knowledge shall be furthered for the good of the entire Mapp. The dissolution of the Nexus provides the opportunity for the spread of information beyond the confines of the former power blocs.

The Platinum Nexus, although effective and highly successful for its time, was ultimately a barrier as all alliance systems inherently are. The dissolution of the Nexus heralds a new era of internationalism. Former Nexus nations are ready to join the rest of the world. We just hope the world is ready to receive what we have to offer.
