Dickensian Propaganda Strikes Fatal Nerve

At 8:48 PM on October 14, 2001, the Ethnarch of Rattanjeetland formally announced the annexation of Dickens Peninsula into the Empire. The move came days before an ultimatum handed down to the Universalistic Dictator expired.

In the humanitarian CP camps of East El-Hussaq where the Dickensian refugees stay, the Universalistic Dictator and the Dickensian police released pamphlets depicting the Ethnarch as a terrorist and the most wanted man in Dickens Peninsula. A million alto reward was offered. When local El-Hussaqi media picked up on the development, the story spread like wildfire across international media and eventually ended up in Rattanjeetland. The Ethnarch, enraged beyond belief, stormed into the Adiposia for an emergency session of parliament. The deputies stood on their feet and gave the Ethnarch their unconditional support.

International response to the event has mostly been one of condemnation and disgust. The Dickensian people counter that the pamphlet is right - the Ethnarch has been waging a war of terror on their nation. Analysts suspect that this move could be a fatal blow for Dickens Peninsula.

Editor's Note: Going away from the story, the real reason why Dickens Peninsula was annexed was because the latter had put up a real picture of the Ethnarch (in real life). This move violates the line distinguishing real life from the happenings on the Mapp. Subsequently, the annexation can also be seen as violating the line between real life and the Mapp. In other words, everyone's wrong and the whole thing's gone to hell.
