The Phoney War Heats Up
Meijing Occupied By Buenos Altan Forces

Right after midnight on December 30, 2001, military radar screens across the Mapp showed live fire in the northeast. Within minutes, elite Buenos Altan forces flew across the border and attempted to capture a Meijingese missile battery. The commandos failed in their mission and when Lord Somerset received word of the botched capture attempt, he launched a ground invasion, 200,000 strong, into Meijing. Overwhelmed by numbers, defenders of the Meijingese grand base succumbed to the invasion and quiet soon set into the dark velvet of night-time urban combat.

However, the eerie silence did not last for long. In the meantime, remaining Meijingese soldiers were hastily awoken and sent to the missile batteries in a final attempt to defend their country from the Buenos Altan attackers. As the government desperately attempted to rally the citizenry, the Meijingese missile barrages failed to penetrate Buenos Altan defenses. By this time, a second wave of troops had poured across the border and headed straight towards the missile batteries.

One battery fell easily to the attackers while the other remained staunchly in the hands of the Meijingese. Because both installations were only mere metres from each other, Buenos Altan troops swung the captured missile turret from the direction of their homeland to the battery next door and opened fire. A ball of flame lit up the night sky as the ex-Meijingese missile battery was blasted to smithereens. With all military installations destroyed, Buenos Altan troops entered the Meijing Parliament and forced the Minister of Internal Affairs to cease all construction immediately. Currently, Buenos Altos is in firm control of Meijing. Political analysts strongly suspect that Lord Somerset ordered the invasion because Meijing had almost finished building its state of the art super military base.

The invasion should come as no surprise since an ultimatum to Meijing had expired for days and despite negotiations between the Pharaoh and Lord Somerset, Meijing continued to build the military base. From Smartaford, where the Pharaoh is away on a state visit, the invasion looked like fireworks ending with an explosion resembling a flare from an oil well. She isn't expected to be back until well into the new year. Meanwhile, Lord Somerset has stated that a press release shall be issued later on the 30th.
