Stemming from the dissolution of the Platinum Nexus and the desire to make the voice of the middle powers heard, the Emm of Jared led the charge for a merger between leading middle powers in a bid for greatness. On January 19, 2002, his dream came true as Denisia and Jared formed an economic and political union. The exact terms of the merger are not known but when asked, the Jaredian Privy Council stated that a constitution is in the process of being drafted.
The Emm's vision for the Hanseatic League involves Buenos Altos, Denisia, and Jared. However, due to the current situation surrounding Buenos Altos, Gorditas, Lindsholm, Meijing, and Rattanjeetland, the third component of the League could not be incorporated into the merger. Although Lord Somerset has stated his intent to join the League, he no longer controls Buenos Altos and any potential merger would become quite messy due to the War of the Three Great Powers.
After Lord Somerset abdicated to Rattanjeetland, the Ethnarch annexed the large majority of Buenos Altos, leaving 10% of the nation as officially Buenos Altos. However, even this fraction of land is still under Rattanjeetarr control since the Ethnarch is the Buenos Altan head of state. To further complicate matters, Rattanjeetarr control of the area is in dispute since the Ethnarch surrendered to Gorditas and Lindsholm.
Nevertheless, the Emm would not let Lord Somerset's intent be ignored. At the same time when he announced the formation of a Hanseatic League encompassing Denisia and Jared, the Emm sent 20,000 troops into official Buenos Altos, that is, the fractionated or "non-annexed" part of what used to be that country. With his troops in the area, Jared claimed all of what used to be Buenos Altos and Meijing for the Hanseatic League.
The move caused great alarm in the many capitals of the Mapp. Later on the 19th, the Prime Minister of Gorditas released sections of the proposed treaty to resolve the War of the Three Great Powers and in so doing, the fate of Buenos Altos. However, the move did nothing to placate the Emm's drive to forge the Hanseatic League. Surprisingly, Lord Somerset urged for the creation of a Congressional commission to determine what should happen to all parties involved in the northeast. Although the statement was received cooly by many countries, Congressional Parliament has expressed interest.
