Pauldelphia Independent
On March 22, 2002, the Imperatore of Pauldelphia and Supreme Viceroy of Lindsholm agreed to terminate a protectorship agreement that had lasted for one and a half years. The occasion, held at the Riksholm, was low-key and no bitterness marked the ceremony. For months the Supreme Viceroy and his cabinet believed that Pauldelphia was able to stand on its own. In contrast, many Pauldelphians felt their nation was not ready to fully plunge into the murky waters of international politics.
However, with the gradual dissolution of the Cold War system and continual assurances from Lindsholm and Marcusburg of military aid, Pauldelphians eventually warmed up to the plan of full-fledged independence. As deputies in the Parthenon of the Decemprimi (Pauldelphia parliament) gave a standing ovation to the Imperatore's speech of independence, Technopact Headquarters was officially established in the country. As a result, the free flow of scientific knowledge and ideas from four different nations converges at the organization's hub in Pauldelphia.
