Samchorage Leads Process For Change

Although many former Confederate members have expressed their grievance over the limitations of the Riksholm Treaty at various times over the past year, the process for any real change to the Treaty, known as "Neorikspolitik", had only begun in 2002.

Stemming from a boom in his nation's economy and the popular support of his government, the CEO of Miketon launched a half-hearted campaign to initiate Neorikspolitik in late January after the War of 2K2 had ended. However, after negotiations began with the GX, now responsible for enforcing the Riksholm Treaty following the dismantling of the Platinum Nexus, the CEO was informed that all powers limited by the Treaty would have to agree to renegotiate terms as well.

Vicious domestic elections soon usurped the CEO's attention from Neorikspolitik and any discussion of the subject was prematurely ended. However, his initiative had not fallen on deaf ears. After a brief informal meeting with the President of Samchorage, the latter eventually decided to take up the cause of renegotiating the Riksholm Treaty.

Slowly but surely representatives from the Samokritzg have been jetting to various former Confederate powers to enlist their support for the Neorikspolitik process. Already, the nations of Samchorage, Miketon, East El-Hussaq, and Rattanjeetland (and by extension Natharctica) have all pledged their support for the Samchoragean initiative.

However, represenatives of Wendorra la Vella and Jollywood have yet to be consulted. Many find the development not surprising as those nations's governments are rumored to be negligent and corrupt and very hard to reach. Officially the Wendorran and Jollywooder governments are on recess from parliamentary sessions.

One final obstacle to the Samchoragean effort of preparing the groundwork for Neorikspolitik is Novara. Although limited by the Riksholm Treaty, the country is also part of the SPQH (Hanseatic League). Currently the Novaran armed forces have surpassed the Riksholm military cap because the troops are technically joint between the SPQJ (Jared) and Novara. Any limitation on the size of this military force would be a violation of SPQJ sovereignty. The difficulty presented by Novara is that due to its political, economic, and military integration with the SPQH, any negotiations with that nation must also involve Denisia and Jared.

Even though the Samchoragean initiative appears to be proceeding smoothly, the Novaran obstacle may prove to be a greater detriment to the process than at first perceived. In recent months, the President cancelled his quasi-alliance with Novara as a result of its accession into the SPQH. Although Samchorage wanted to negotiate a non-aggression pact with Novara, confusion and frustration over how negotiations would proceed due to the Novaran relation with the SPQH quickly ended all such attempts.

On a bright note, however, the GX has indicated that it is willing to begin Neorikspolitik negotiations as soon as the groundwork has been set, which may provide the impetus required to keep the momentum of Neorikspoliticking going.
