A New Rattanjeetland Baptized By Fire

RATTANJEETLAND - From the Adiposia, the Ethnarch announced the creation of the Rattanjeetland Confederacy, comprising the Empire of Rattanjeetland, the former Kingdom of Kamopolis, and the Republic of Josephville. The Ethnarch had intended to form the Confederacy earlier but pressing events, notably the Creosos War, stood in the way. Just prior to the Creosos War, the Ethnarch was in negotiations with the Proconsul of Josephville concerning a union between the two nations with Rattanjeetland being the presiding partner. Before the ink on the paper dried, war erupted in the south.

However, with the war over and victory in the hands of the Ethnarch, events moved swiftly. The Confederacy, a federal system of government, was formed immediately. The Ethnarch would be head of state of the new Confederacy and of the Empire of Rattanjeetland, now a province of the Confederacy. The Proconsul would be reduced to a governor in status.

The treasuries of the three provinces, those of Josephville, Rattanjeetland, and Kamopolis, would be combined into a new Confederate treasury. Foreign policy would be harmonized and dictated by the Ethnarch. Deputies would be elected to the Adiposia from all three provinces to elect a parliamentary cabinet. The seats of power of the three provinces, that is, the Guevedoco and the Volkshem, would act as provincial capitols. The Adiposia would be split into two chambers - one as a capitol and the other as the national parliament.

International response to the development has been mostly lukewarm. The Prime Chancellor of Marcusburg welcomed the move but hinted in the near future the Confederacy would be able to protect itself and would no longer require Marcusburg protection. Observers note increasingly tense relations between Marcusburg and Rattanjeetland as the latter has departed from the views of the former.

In Samchorage, the President expressed anger at the move and warned Rattanjeetland against any hasty and provokative actions. The memory of the Pyrrhic War is fresh in the minds of all.
