Samchorage Abdicates
Rattanjeetland Gains Power and Prestige

At 9:17 PM on November 18, 2000, the President of the Republican Empire of Samchorage formally stepped down and ceded all territory, power, and jurisdiction of his empire to Ethnarch Jussolini of Rattanjeetland. The development is the final chapter in the “Anticlimax” by which the world witnessed the abdication of Portalto to Marcusburg and Samchorage to Rattanjeetland. In both cases, the abdicated powers ceded their empires to former enemies.

The rationale behind the abdication of the Samchoragean President mainly stems from the collapse of a secret plan to vanquish the Empire of Portalto. Following formal recovery from the Pyrrhic War, the President decided to guide his empire to foremost greatness. The conquest of Portalto would provide the perfect opportunity. In the war rooms in the Presidential Palace and in the Samokritzg, generals and strategists were kept busy for three hectic weeks.

During the planning stages, the President sought the approval of Marcusburg – Samchorage’s closest ally. The Prime Chancellor disapproved of the action but would not take any action to stop it. Finally, it was agreed between the two heads of state that the Prime Chancellor would receive financial compensation from the President’s attempt to dislodge Marcusburg as the leading power on the Mapp, through the Samchoragean conquest of Portalto.

When the President unveiled his reforms through complete militarization, many heads of state were unnerved by the development – including the Chief Hobo of Portalto. The Chief Hobo, a man of simplicity seeking a simple life, looked to Marcusburg for protection. The result was the Platinum Matrix by which Marcusburg and Portalto became integrated as never before. The Prime Chancellor took great pains to ensure Portaltan independence and Portaltan dependence on Marcusburg in order to keep the peace between the President and himself.

The President of Samchorage saw the Platinum Matrix as betrayal. Furious and enraged, Samchorage demanded compensation from Marcusburg over the development. The Prime Chancellor, sympathetic to the Samchoragean point of view, agreed to provide the President with an undisclosed sum over the development. The money would be used solely to fund a powerful top secret military project in order for Samchorage to restore the balance of power on the Mapp.

Having reached agreement, the President renewed his attempt to achieve foremost greatness and entered into negotiations with Rattanjeetland. The Platinum Matrix was yet another disturbing event to many powers as the balance of power was skewed largely towards a Marcusburg-Portalto axis. Wanting to counterbalance the powerful new entity, the Ethnarch and the President agreed to integrate their two empires through a treaty similar to that of the Platinum Matrix, dubbed the “Phoneix Treaty”.

When the Prime Chancellor caught word of the proposed Phoneix Treaty, he grew anxious over the possibility of losing foremost greatness to Samchorage. Had Samchorage attacked Portalto, both powers would have sustained damage and the position of Marcusburg as the leading power on the Mapp would have been secure. However, a combined Rattanjeetland-Samchorage axis along with a powerful top-secret project funded by the Prime Chancellor would surely have dislodged Marcusburg from prominence or at the very least would have threatened its policy of splendid isolation. As a result, the Prime Chancellor cancelled financial compensation to Samchorage calling the proposed Phoneix Treaty betrayal. Financial compensation would only be provided if Samchorage and Rattanjeetland renounced any intention of integration.

Not surprisingly, the President grew furious over the denial of financial compensation and a war of words was traded between the Marcusburg and Samchorage embassies. The final straw proved to be the Platinum Capitulation by which the Chief Hobo unexpectedly ceded all territory to Marcusburg. In effect, Portalto was annexed. The President, disenfranchised and feeling betrayed, bitterly realized that all his attempts at achieving foremost greatness were blocked by the Prime Chancellor in one way or another.

Lacking direction and further motivation for rule, the President decided to restore the balance of power on the Mapp by making the ultimate self-sacrifice: abdication and cession of all jurisdiction to the Ethnarch. In a way, the Phoenix Treaty became the Phoenix Capitulation as the Platinum Matrix became the Platinum Capitulation.

The addition of the Samchorage Empire into the Empire of Rattanjeetland is a major boost for the Ethnarch as he regains all power lost in the waning days of true Rattanjeetland greatness beginning with the Norterr Crisis of April 2000. The Samchoragean protectorates, now without a protector, have the option of becoming independent or joining the Rattanjeetland Confederacy.

Collectively, the Portaltan and Samchoragean abdications are known as the “Anticlimax”. The emergence of the Anticlimactic Era has bore witness to the rise of two superpowers – the Great Republic of the Marcusburg Empire and the Empire of Rattanjeetland. Nevertheless, the loss of Samchorage and Portalto provides many opportunities for remaining nations as power voids have yet to be filled. Best positioned to become the “Third Bloc” is the Republic of Lindsholm.
