SAMCHORAGE - After two months of inaction, the President of Samchorage expressed his frustration at the slow progression of Neorikspolitik.
The process by which the Riksholm Treaty is renegotiated was kicked off in January when the President enthusiastically embarked on a diplomatic offensive by garnering the support of all Riksholmic powers, that is, all nations limited by the infamous Treaty. However, after an initial boost when major Riksholmic powers quickly rallied behind the President, the process got bogged down as the smaller nations proved more difficult to contact and persaude.
By May, only two Riksholmic nations needed to be consulted for Neorikspolitik to formally go ahead. Jollywood, once contacted, agreed, citing Confederate loyalties. In contrast, Wendorra la Vella expressed concern that changing the Treaty might threaten its security. However after many false starts, the President invaded the country and partitioned it into two, leaving 5,000 troops to occupy the shrunken remnant of Wendorra la Vella.
Starting in mid-June, Samchoragean officials have been in constant contact with the Marcusburg Foreign Office over starting formal negotiations. However, the Prime Chancellor stated that the consent of all three GX nations, the enforcers of the Riksholm Treaty, was required. At Samchorage's request, the Foreign Office attempted to contact its Gorditan and Lindsholmic counterparts. The long summer vacations of officials in the Gorditas and Lindsholm Foreign Ministries, in addition to the Marcusburg Foreign Office, resulted in a quick breakdown of communication.
When word did get through to the Prime Minister of Gorditas and the Supreme Viceroy of Lindsholm in July, the former largely ignored the matter while the latter indicated he would have to be contacted directly for an issue as important as Neorikspolitik to proceed. Privately however, the GX countries have expressed concern over the Wendorran predicament.
Although the Queen has not made any official comment on the invasion of her country, many in the GX sympathize with Wendorra la Vella, especially in Lindsholm which was a key ally in the Zeradit War of last summer. Until the issues of relatively lax intra-GX communication and the differences in opinion over Wendorra la Vella are resolved, few expect Neorikspolitik to go anywhere fast anytime soon.
