NEW WEIMAR - Although her country stands on the verge of economic chaos, the Queen of New Weimar continues to press on with a modernization program.
After winning building rights from the newly constructed Congressional Auction House in Rattanjeetland, the Weimaran treasury was plunged into severe debt. Alarmed by the potential partitioning of one of the few progressive emerging powers, the World Bank established an international bailout package for New Weimar.
However, Congressional ambassadors from near and far rejected contributing, as countries ranging from Wingtucky to Miketon refused to donate. A few days before the August financial statement was released, an anonymous ambassador wired A60 million to the Weimaran treasury thereby saving the nation from partitioning.
On September 7, the Queen made an official statement through a full-page advertisement in a national newspaper to shore up investor confidence. Some reforms introduced include a new 2% GST and a reaffirmation of opening up New Weimar to international trade.
Nevertheless, the issue of the building rights remained. Having won the rights at a cost of A320 million, the Queen refused to forfeit them as the World Bank suggested. In spite of poor economic performance in August, the rights are being used to construct other infrastructure needed by the country even though the move will most certainly plunge New Weimar into economic chaos. Numbers released by Congressional Parliament already show that a record number of people emigrated from New Weimar due to economic uncertainty.
In a shocking move, on September 10 the Queen accused the Parliament of inaccurate bookkeeping and released numbers of her own. In her memorandum, New Weimar reportedly received a record number of immigrants from economic migrants fleeing Free El-Hussaq due to a tax hike there. As well, the Queen claims that due to an exceptional health care system (in spite of a lack of sound medical infrastructure), New Weimar has one of the highest birth rates in the world.
Sympathetic to the plight of the Weimarans, the Secretary-General has pledged to consult the Great Powers Forum before proceeding with partitioning New Weimar once the country slips back into economic chaos. Not surprisingly, the Queen has condemned in the strongest possible terms any attempt to break apart her country.
On a bizarre side note, when news of the Weimaran economic crisis first hit Rattanjeetland, the Ethnarch ordered the Weimaran flag flown beside the Rattanjeetarr one as a sign of solidarity. However, the Weimaran flag was flown lower, and angry Rattanjeetlanders managed to torch the flag after lobbing Molotov cocktails at it before security guards could arrest them.
Furthermore, after a record economic performance in August, the Ethnarch contacted the New Weimar ambassador to Congressional Parliament to offer an emergency A80 million grant. Surprisingly, during the course of the negotiations, the Ethnarch changed the grant into a loan with special conditions. However, upon learning that the Queen decided to press on with her modernization campaign, the Ethnarch withdrew whatever economic assistance he once offered to provide.
