Citizens in 24 democratic countries went to the polls today to elect new national governments for the year 2003.
In most countries, voters could choose between the peaceable Green and Socialist parties, the centrist Liberals and Conservatives, and the warlike Imperial and Hawk parties. However for the second year in a row, Riksholmic citizens chose between the Liberal, Labour, Socialist, Green, Pacifist, and Neocommunist parties.
While the Liberals swept to power in East El-Hussaq, Marcusburg, and Rattanjeetland, the Green Party took control of parliaments in Gorditas and Samchorage. Siggarians elected an Imperial government while Neoconservatives now call the shots in Wendorra la Vella.
Furthermore, the election of the Left Party in Lindsholm shows a consistent tendency of people living in major countries to embrace the left and abandon militarism.
Although some are applauding the results as a firm step away from conflict since voters will punish their governments for going to war, others remain skeptical, noting that in the end, countries will do whatever is in their own interests, regardless of the consequences.
As a final note, the Buenos Altos Republic held its elections last month under an ambitious plan to make the government more accountable to the people.
