Marcusburg opens its new International Relief Agency (I-RAM) amidst recent Congressional accusations of fiscal selfishness by rich nations - such as Siggary and Pauldelphia - by ignoring the plight of the poor.
However, while some welcome the opening of I-RAM as an attempt to equalize the jaw-dropping disparity in wealth and power between the Great Powers (notably the GX) and the other countries, others cynically deride the development as yet another means of Marcusburg trying to project its power on the Mapp.
Furthermore, Congressional officials have quietly accused Marcusburg of undermining its own attempts to reform itself after the Congress of Rotterloo. One such package of reforms targets CP's financial relief branch known as the World Development Agency (WDA).
The WDA has proven to be just as dismal as its predecessor the World Bank. After the Bank stopped automatically providing financial assistance when the Secretary-General contended that it was being abused by the Great Powers, many deserving countries fell into financial turmoil, apparently avoiding the institution altogether.
The World Bank was then revamped into the WDA which attempted to reach out to countries in need. There is almost a universal consensus that the WDA has failed in that respect.
The new I-RAM, however, will be far more interventionist. Marcusburg shall open up its coffers to any country that it deems friendly and in need of funds for civil development.
That, argues critics, is merely a front for Marcusburg to gain favour with other countries by essentially bribing them with money. When confronted with this assertion, an I-RAM spokesperson countered that it is merely doing what CP has failed to do - help the poor.
He also added that I-RAM was not designed to "take the place of the WDA", thus it will only aid certain countries as opposed to all CP member-states.
Despite the controversy surrounding I-RAM's opening, activists for poor countries admit that some interventionist aid, albeit heavily politicized in nature, is better than the current lax system - especially when the countries they are trying to help have proven themselves to be completely ignorant.
