Great Powers Consider War
After months of delay, CP finally tackles the dicey violation of the Occidentale Convention by El-Hussaq. And for the first time, the world seriously considers sanctioning military action.

On August 27, President El Cid II of East El-Hussaq constructed a super military base in his far western colony of Occidentale. This violated an international Convention which made all of the Occidentale area a non-militarized region.

Claiming that because he had voted against the Convention, El Cid II contended he did not need to abide by it. However, the Convention had become legally binding in a majority vote in Congressional Parliament earlier that summer.

The violation had been put on the backburner by CP as the Secretary-General resigned and major administrative changes took place in the international organization. Now with most of the reforms underway, the new Secretary-General felt confident enough to take on the El-Hussaqi predicament.

As an example of reformed CP, the Secretary-General has opened up debate on issues to include what sorts of options countries can vote for. In the past, the Secretary-General would decide the options and countries would choose from that predetermined list.

As a result, military action became a prominent choice. Far from trying to quash such proposals (as the previous Secretary-General might very well have done), CP has let the options through into a vote that would decide what the world does, if anything, to punish East El-Hussaq.

Privately, some Gorditan officials are already wondering about whether the Defensecorps could be circumvented in the event of military attack. Lindsholmic officials are rumoured to be choosing with which weapons to attack from their extensive armamentarium.
