In a dramatic show of force, President El Cid II smashes the Riksholm Treaty by filling all empty positions in his military bases and launching a total conscription campaign.
Under the Riksholm Treaty imposed on the nation on January 25, 2001, East El-Hussaq was restricted to a 10% militarization percentage in peacetime. The punitive measures were the result of a war between East El-Hussaq and its allies against Gorditas, Lindsholm, Marcusburg, and their allies, known as the 'War of 2K1'.
Since then, numerous attempts aimed at modifying or dropping these restrictions, in a process known as 'Neorikspolitik', have failed miserably. To add fuel to the East El-Hussaqi desire for change was the Nexkrieg of April 2001 when the country was torn into two the first time it violated the Riksholm Treaty.
This time around, the President has filled his empty military bases to capacity, which were artificially emptied to ensure the country complied with the Treaty. Furthermore, he launched a massive conscription campaign designed to bring every man, woman, and child into the armed forces.
He fell short with only 99.8% of his country militarized, compared to the desired 100%. The changes give East El-Hussaq the second largest military on the entire Mapp, eclipsing all the Great Powers save Marcusburg. Ironically, East El-Hussaq is classified as a Major Power.
Although the President threatened to break the Riksholm Treaty - indeed he disowned it - back in December 2003, the move sparked little enthusiasm among the enforcers of the Riksholm Treaty (Gorditas, Lindsholm, and Marcusburg) and other Treaty adherents (e.g. Samchorage, Miketon, Rattanjeetland) to change the status quo.
However, the President's latest gamble will be a very hard move for the enforcers and the adherents to ignore.
