Kamostopol Crisis Averted
Civil unrest in Kamostopol has been thwarted by a hastily organized agreement between Marcusburg, East El-Hussaq, Siggary, and a new head of state in Kamostopol - the Primarch.

On June 8, 2004 at 12:18AM, a grassroots movement discontent with the status-quo in Kamostopol staged widespread demonstrations throughout the country and even managed to take control over the Htanogra - the national monument.

The protesters were angry at the byzantine array of diplomatic arrangements that had brought stability to the country a year and a half ago; but at the cost of stagnation and abject poverty. These series of political developments have in time been termed 'the Great Game'.

Within the span of five months starting in 2001, Kamostopol changed hands between five countries. Each time one nation held control, another would object - leading to tension, or in the case of the Siggo-Hussaqi Crisis, nearly war.

At the end of the struggle, Siggary, El-Hussaq, and Marcusburg signed the 'Three Points Document' agreeing to leave Kamostopol as is. Furthermore, Marcusburg signed the 'Tectonic Agreement' with the Chieftain of Kamostopol to take control of the country's foreign affairs and defense. Internally, however, the country laid backward and destitute.

Surrounded by the prosperous nations of Siggary, Pauldelphia, and Denisia, Kamostopolians could only look with envy and anger towards their richer neighbors.

The country seemed to be stuck in the past. After all, the Htanogra is nothing but the statue of a former Kamostopolian leader giving the middle finger to Lindsholm in commemoration of events that occurred during the Zeradit War of long ago.

The anger finally boiled over in June 8 and the Chieftain was forced to flee the country. The head of the demonstrations quickly took on a presidential role and became the unofficial leader of the dissident movement.

Taking on the title Primarch, he was invited to an emergency congregation of Siggarian, El-Hussaqi, and Marcurean representatives organized by the Marcusburg Foreign Office to discuss the situation.

Using the Constitution of the Sixth Era that he had just signed with Samchorage as a template, the Foreign Minister of Marcusburg argued for Kamostopol to become a protectorate of his country. Siggary agreed and in return for some land in Occidentale, East El-Hussaq agreed as well.

Furthermore, the Primarch won key concessions too. The Foreign Minister agreed to open up Kamostopol to free trade from around the world, to build a university for the country, and to provide Kamostopol with a substantial monetary grant.

However in return for protection, Kamostopol would become democratic, be bound by a pacifist constitution, and be restricted to the Riksholm Treaty.

To the amazement of all parties, by June 10 the agreement was ready and signed. Within three days, the so-called 'Great Game' had come to an end. Hopefully, Kamostopolians can now finally look forward to a brighter future.
