Train Explosions Kill 971
As the moon shone overhead on the night of March 7, 2001, the Phloston Opera Company performed their final performance at the Marcusburg Opera House while taco cravers from Lindsholm boarded the train to Gorditas, oblivious to their fate on this fateful night. The silence of the evening was rudely interrupted by two balls of flames, whose fury could be seen as far away as the new land of Buenos Altos.
When the chaos was over, 971 were killed as two Steel Glider trains exploded while on their way to Rattanjeetland, from Marcusburg and Lindsholm. The power of the blast severed the Seto Bridge in Downtown Marcusburg and ripped the ground bare in Lindsholm Colony One East. Paramedics and emergency crews immediately rushed to the scene to find the injured and dead spread out over the landscape.
The synchronicity of the blasts immediately led to the conclusion that the explosion was a deliberate act of terrorism. Passengers killed mostly included Rattanjeetland nationals, among nationals from various other nations. An investigation has been ordered into the incident by both Marcusburg and Lindsholm; suspicion currently lies on the Brotherhood of Blubber, whose last act of terrorism ignited the Creosos War between former Kamopolis and Rattanjeetland.
The B.O.B. is an organization intent on seeing the rebirth of a strong Rattanjeetland, independent from what they see as the usurping of the Ethnarch's power by the Confederacy, and the destruction of the Platinum Nexus. The Prime Chancellor of Marcusburg, in response, dropped the economic embargo against Rattanjeetland and sent his condolences to the Ethnarch in "this time of need for the Rattanjeetarr people". The Lindsholm embargo, however, still stands.
The act of terrorism managed to cut off Rattanjeetland from the rest of the Steel Glider system and when asked, a conductor in Janettown commented "services to destinations other than Rattanjeetland are and will continue to operate normally". In the meantime, Marcusburg customs officials are taking more stringent measures against passengers onboard flights from Confederate nations.
