Siggary Purchases Wilhelmplatz
On June 27, 2001, the Dominion of Siggary formally purchased a large portion of Wilhelmplatz. Developed territory, including the Waffleplatz and other government structures, remain in the control of "Mad King Wills". The acquisition of the territory set Siggary back A1,500,000K.
The process of purchasing the land involved negotation between Bendover, the protector of Wilhelmplatz, and Marcusburg, the protector of Bendover. Wilhelmplatz is also a Marcusburg sphere of influence as decreed in the Treaty of Siggary.
Negotiations began shortly after the new year began and before the War of 2K1 erupted. At that time, Siggary had just finished fully developing its colony and had run out of land to develop. The construction boom skyrocketed Siggary into near-Great Power status although the Dominion was never nominated by the Secretary-General of Congressional Parliament as the War of 2K1 proved to be a more pressing matter.
While other nations pressed on with reconstruction and expansion, Siggary stagnated. A few skyscrapers were erected in the "Siggary Skyscraper Redevelopment Initiative", whereby citizens were relocated from their suburban homes to make room for further development, but the already small Siggarian suburbs did not put a dent in the growing gap between Siggary and other nations on the Mapp.
Initially negotiations between Marcusburg and Siggary quickly stalled as a result of Siggarian fury over the Marcusburg acquisition of Siggarian land gained in the Land Rush, known as the "Outback Trade". During the incident which occurred in late March, the Prime Chancellor managed to purchase the "Siggarian Outback" for a mere A165,000K. Real estate agents put the true value of the land at around A400,000K. Siggary demanded that it purchase a portion of Wilhelmplatz for the same price.
When Marcusburg refused, diplomatic relations between Marcusburg and Siggary chilled for nearly three months. However, faced with the exponential growth of nations in the Platinum Nexus and Phoenix Confederacy, Siggary risked getting left behind. The Queen of Siggary then reconsidered her offer of A165,000K and negotiations quickly got underway on June 26th.
A deal between Marcusburg and Siggary was reached with the purchase price at A1,500,000K. Approval from the Emperor of Bendover would be required to realize the transaction. When consulted about the deal, the Emperor reluctantly gave his approval, as he cited that the purchase price for Wilhelmplatz was insultingly low. Likewise, the Machstag, Bendover Parliament, defeated the motion from the Emperor to approve the transaction, citing the low price as a "slap in the face in terms of the pride of all Bendoverers". However, the Marcusburg ambassador vetoed the decision of the Machstag deputies and the Emperor's approval became official. Real estate analysts project the true value of the portion of Wilhelmplatz sold to be around A650,000K.
