Buenos Altos Defines Border
Unilateral Declaration Raises Thorny Issues

After a series of stalled negotiations over what Buenos Altan borders should be, the head of state of Buenos Altos sent out a group of geologists to survey the area in dispute. However, on the night of September 20, 2001, the surveyors took their job one step further - they formally declared the area to which they had been sent the formal boundaries of the Buenos Altos region of Kamostopol.

The unilateral demarcation is a potential legal and diplomatic minefield. Under international law, borders only become official if both parties agree to their location. The Buenos Altan declaration is an unprecedented legal move which means that in the eyes of Siggary, the border does not exist and the land which Buenos Altos claimed as its own still lies within the Siggarian zone of control in Terra Incognita. To Buenos Altos, any violation of its self-imposed boundary would be tantamount to a severe violation of sovereignty - even a declaration of war.

The unilateral boundary extends a bit to the east of definite Buenos Altan Kamostopol territory and up to the southern Pauldelphian zone of control periphery (as shown in the map below).
