We read everywhere that a girl's self esteem is lowered by looking at the models in teen magazine, but how many of us actually believe it? A study done by the Archives of Pediatric and Adolescent Medicine found teenage body image was GREATLY influenced by what they see in television, movies, and magazines. They say that it is these images that cause many girls to think they are not good looking enough. They also think that many of these cases that began so innocently, end with bulimia and/or anorexia. Although the hype surrounding anorexia and bulimia has dimmed, the problems for many teens still remain. Whether or not it is the media that is the root of many teen's problems, they still exist. It seems, though society does not want eating disorders or low self-esteem, after all the media coverage of these issues, we seldom hear about them anymore. Just remember, if you are trying to lose weight, there is no easy method, just try and be safe. You only get one body. |
