Ambulances

An average ambulance; Due to the potential conflicts with ALS Equipment, grav pods are NOT installed.

Ambulances serve throughout the UGC to transport the sick and injured. They are equipped with the most advance life-support equipment from throughout the UGC, and some beyond; Life Support Pods, used even in militry service (most notably the MG-8 Phantom Guardian), are typically found in every such vehicle. Variations on the Adventure Kayak are carried on those involved in fast-water Search And Rescue. Waterborne versions have been developed for use on high-water worlds and regions (such as parts of Terra and Tirol).

The Ambulance depicted here, from Terra’s Australia (possibly a Sydney-area hospital), has large windows; This is a rarity, and indicates it may be a high-risk medical transport, as opposed to a standard emergency medical transport. The difference is minor, but critical- The vehicle depicted would typically be used to transport patients form a hospital to another hospital, or to a transport craft such as a shuttle, to take them to another medical center.

It is critical to note that while most ambulances are owned and operated by private interests, and therefore are NOT government assets, they still maintain emergency right-of-way when emergency lights and sirens are active; This does not relieve the ambulance crew of their responsibility to operate the vehicle in a safe manner, in compliance with local laws, codes, regulations, agency policy, and common customs.

It is generally customary NOT to transport non-patient passengers, except under the circumstances of a child; Then custom, and sometimes law, allows or even requires the parent to be present for care to be performed. Also, in the case of an at-risk victim of a crime, a police officer will, sometimes, be permitted to ride along, either to take a statement, or more often for protection of the victim (such as protected witness).

Special Information: Ambulances typically do NOT take advantage of grav pod technology; The concentrated gravity- and anti-gravity wave cones may interfere with medical equipment, especially implanted equipment, such as pacemakers, hearing implants, etc. While usually these waves do not interfere with such implants (otherwise they’d kill everyone who used them), the use of grav pods is avoided with these patients. The strain of the medical emergency can be aggravated with the added strain of grav pods, and there is no need to add to the emergency.

Hygiene, and Psychiatry routinely gives out hundreds of millions in grants
and billions in loans to groups to purchase and maintain them.

Weapon Systems:

Typically None; Though ambulances are routinely targeted for theft, and the crews harassed and robbed, the vehicles are, occasionally, equipped with shields, and ambulance crews are often issued varying body armors and in some places allowed to carry weapons for their own defense; A popular choice is variations on the Brotherhood Of Steel’s Plasma Torch for its dual-use ability (cutting metal during rescues, and self-defense).

The main thing defending ambulance crews is THE LAW, and it’s a HEAVY Hammer; All laws related to ambulance crews can be prosecuted under UGC law; Deliberately attacking an ambulance crew member is specifically listed under Attempted Murder, carrying a 25 years sentence in a UGC Prison. This means the convict may be incarcerated in a cell next to a militry sex-crimes convict. Imagining the possibilities, most people choose to leave the paramedics well alone. (They should feel lucky; Attacking, even accidently, a militry ambulance in combat carries an immediate field courts-martial carrying the DEATH PENALTY, usually by way of a heavy-artillery barrage.)

Features: Ambulances are lighter on most combat-related Features than most vehicles because they are NOT combat vehicles; They are supposed to stay back away from the fighting until the shooting stops.
Hearing Amplification: Can amplify sounds as quiet as 1 decibel at 1,000 feet, and in the ultra- and sub-sonic ranges. Unidirectional.
HUD: Displays maps, radar, targeting information, and any OTHER information the user wants directly in front of the them.
Activities Recorder: Essentially the same as a plane's black boxes, this system records from sensors and the cockpit itself. 500 hours of recording available.
ESM: Radar Detector. Passively detects other radars being operated.
Motion Detector: Activates a loud wailing when an object is coming at the user fast, and a soft ringing if it’s coming slowly. Activation ranges must be specified by the pilot.
GPS: Standard tracking device.
Virtual Map: Displays a continuously-updating map of local terrain for the pilot. Effective land navigation of 85% as updates come. Good to 50 miles. Specific range can be adjusted in 1 mile increments.
Loudspeaker: Amplifies voice 1 to 100 times. 100 feet in normal crowds.
Variable Tint Viewports: Adjusts tinting to light conditions, up to an including a black dot if the sun is directly on the pilots face (only covers eyes).
Fire resistance: Fires external to the vehicle are not felt at all, even if the crew wants to.
Internal temperature and humidity control: Automatically maintains users desired heat, humidity, and other personal comfort settings.
Oxygen Rebreather System: Extends internal air supply to 100 hours; Cartridge MUST be replaced after that period of time.
Type-11 wide band radios: Effective 10 mile range, auto encrypt/decrypt. Works on standard radio band wavelengths, so it can still be jammed (if the enemy knows the frequencies).
Adavnced Life Support (ALS) Equipment: All ambulances carry enough gear to turn them into de facto emergency, portable field emergency rooms. Doctors sometimes work ambulance crews to get a little extra cash.

Combat Bonuses from Ambulance Combat Elite:
