RDF/REF Uniform Manual (UniMan).

< dd style='text-align:justify'>REF UniMan was in fact simply hard copy of the old RDF UniMan with the word letters RDF scratched out and a hand-written REF at the end. By the time of the Sentinel Alliance, the REF had huge excesses of some uniform inventory, which were given to the Allies outright. Most of it was perfectly serviceable equipment, including clothes, that did not fit the REF UniMan. The Sentinels did not have uniforms (several of the species did not, in fact, even wear clothes before the alliance to Terra), and with the exception of the Spherians were very grateful for the materials (Spherians require sunlight); Even they accepted some elements happily.

SkyPro^® BDU Combat/Flight Suit

For maximum durability, the RDF flight suit is the suit of choice; Rugged yet comfortable, the cotton poly blend shell can withstand the toughest of assignments, while the inner duro-latic liner retains air but not water, allowing the pilot’s body to breath. Each suit consists of two components, the upper shirt and the lower trousers as a single, easy-to-don coverall arrangement. Most pilots report this arrangement is easier to don and more comfortable. It can safely be worn in hard vacuum for up to 3Ų minutes, even without gloves, though this is not recommended (see manufacturers instructions). Was also used, in a camouflage scheme, as the standard BDU for infantry and tankers.

BDU Pants

Used by just about all elements of the UGC militry other than the various space command pilots, BDU pants have 6 pockets, front, back, and legs, plus belt keepers on the inside of the legs for better holster/pouch control. The back and leg pockets have flaps with Velcro or button closures, and the front pockets are open. The fly can be either button or zipper. Colors vary by service; Army and Marine use camouflage schemes, Aero-Space green, Spacy and Patrol blue. Black is used by all services for certain duties. Straps on the bottom of the legs hold the pants into the wearer’s boots.

Rip Stop material prevent damage, and protect against continuing damage.

Dress Shirt

The UGC issues these long-sleeve shirts for semi-formal dress purposes. When worn under Wolly Pullys, tie is optional. When worn on top, tie is mandatory. Militry Creases are NOT authorized.

Duty Shirt

Originally meant only for the Sentinel Allies during the war with the Regent, the Duty Shirt has become the UGC’s general-purpose working dress shirt; Though short-sleeved, this golf-style shirt supplies the UGC with the best overall shirt. May be worn with dress pants, skirts, or BDUs and under Wolly Pullys, jackets, or on top. Militry Creases are NOT authorized. 1½” name are to be sewn in over the left pocket.

Open-top shirt pocket on both breasts.

Epaulets on both shoulders.

Command insignia worn ½” over left pocket (not ON it).

REF/RDF Fighting Kite worn on both shoulders.

Underarmor Shirt

Used to decrease discomfort from sweat and humidity build-up when wearing body armor/flight suits and from chaffing from these materials. Always worn under any long-sleeved clothing, including flight suits and coats.

Mock turtleneck reduces chaffing to the neck.

Double breast pockets for materials.

Through-groin strap connectors authorized to hold the shirt down when operating robots/heavy machinery.

Thumbstraps authorized in foul weather/flight status.

RDF Flight Helmet

Used by Veritech and Destroid Pilots, the flight helmet per say was a US/UK development from the Global Civil War. The configuration was based on a civilian motorcycle helmet, and indeed many were made at motorcycle helmet factories until the arrival of the Visitor (later SDF-Ų1).The helmet also provided nominal protection from shrapnel and glass fragments, and even would cause projectile rounds (bullets) to “canter”; While this would rarely, if ever, prevent the bullet from striking when it struck straight-on, it would often cause it to spin off in some unpredictable direction, like a spit ball, if it came at anything greater than a 1Ų° angle. More than one pilot, after taking their helmet off, would discover they’d been shot in the head but hadn’t known. On the crack to their helmet informed them of their brush with death. (Commander Roy FOKKER had several such incidents, and before retiring, Admiral Rick HUNTER went through an estimated 2,5ŲŲ helmets during his fourty-year career due to glancing cracks.) After a helmet becomes cracked, it must be discarded without exception.

Contrary to the docu-drama, the RDF Flight Helmet was NOT open-faced; The eye cover could be moved up, but the lower half WAS closed, and therefore more like the helmet used by Lisa HAYES character (portrayed with great proficiency by Mika DOI in Japan, Aline LESLIE in the US/UK) than the one used by Rick HUNTER (done no justice by his portrayal by Arihiro HASE in Japan, Tony OLIVER in the US/UK). The one shown is NOT equipped with breathing hoses, though you can see the hose attachment points. Integrated Bluetooth features allow the helmet to connect with phone/cell phones, radios, and any other comms equipment wirelessly. It also allowed the helmet to have HUD Screen in later models.

RDF Flight Gloves

These standardized flight gloves were issued to just about everyone. The leather and Nomex gloves proves surprisingly resistant to heat and flame, but could not hold atmosphere. Therefore, when worn by astronauts and VT Pilots, the flight suit wrist closures HAD to be double checked to ensure the suit would not fail in the event of atmosphere loss in the cockpit; A pilot wearing these gloves could survive for up to 3Ų minutes if their suit remained intact. The Nomex Flight Glove are the most affordable on the market, and have become an essential piece of equipment for SWAT teams, military units and law enforcement agencies around the galaxies. Constructed with a 1ŲŲ% Nomex fabric back, soft cowhide palm and sewn with non-melting Nomex thread.

RDF Over Gloves

Originally based on bicyclist’s gloves, over gloves were used over standard flight gloves by both Internationalist and Anti-Unificationist tankers and aircraft pilots during the Global Civil War used them. The padded palm gave additional grip, especially for fighter and helicopter pilots, and RFID tags implanted in the pad allowed the tanks and fighters control grips (“joystick” and “steering wheels”) to be used as a de-facto security measure. Though never officially authorized by the various Internationalist nor Anti-Unificationist militaries, the RDF adopted the concept in the first iteration of the Uniform Manual.

REF Extreme Coldweather Leather Mittens

This mitten will insure your warmth, made with a soft heavy duty leather and a wooly back. For easy adjustments, there is a tab wrist and cuff. This mitten comes with thinsulate lining and a removable quilt liner. If you are out there challenging nature's most frigid days, these super warm hand warmers will get you through. They were also carried in just about everyone’s gear bags, and even RDF Veritech Pilots assigned to the MACROSS owed their fingers to these gloves, holding off frostbite after ejection (or ship shut-down) and therefore heat.

Made of wool, cotton, leather, and nomex.

Button and Velcro attachments allow the mittens to be connected directly to larger components (such as jackets), protecting the wearer from warmth-robbing drafts.

Can be worn over ANY other type of gloves, including space-suit grade gloves.

RDF STANDARD COMBAT ARMOR

RDF Combat Armor

The RDF designed a suit of body armor for high-intensity combat, but also a lighter set, based on civilian police riot armor, for general purpose use. Only the torso armor was used by infantry soldiers, due to its uncomfortable and restrictive nature. However, all other major areas of militry service used the light armor until its supersedence by the RDF’s mid-Malcontent Uprisings Era Light Armor, which was both more protective and more flexible. However, many Tankers and Destroid Pilots continued to wear the armor over their Light Armor up until the advent of the CRV-Ų1 and Ų2. Always worn over Combat/Flight Suit.
Price: $5ŲŲ^ŲŲ for a complete suit with standard helmet. Special helmets would cost more, as would other additional gear.

RDF STANDARD COMBAT BOOTS

RDF Combat Boots

These rugged all-leather boots have been in militry service for many decades. The boots have steel toes, to prevent the caps from melting in high-heat (if it’s hot enough to melt the steel, the wearer is probably dead already), and a second version is available with a zipper on the inside.
Colors: Brown for infantry and Armor (tank and Destroid) and black for everyone else.

CEREMONIAL GAITERS

White Canvas Gaiters

Honor Guards are issued white heavyweight canvas gaiters. Black, brown, and green versions are authorized to other units. Heavyweight bleached white canvas with brass eyelets.

Shoulder Sleeve Rank Insignias

Like the Embroidered Rank Insignias (above), Shoulder Sleeve Rank Insignias were never considered official rank indicators by the RDF. However, necessity put them into service far too often, especially in the Tropical Blue Short uniform (short sleeve dress shirt). These do remain in limited service with various RDF’s throughout the UGC, and with BOS Forces in the field. Often supplied with bars on the top and bottom; However the top bars were removed from every one and bottom bar removed from enlisted sleeves.

Embroidered Rank Insignias

These embroidered rank insignias (gold or silver, depending on exact rank, on black twill) are 1½”×1½”. They were never considered “official” rank insignias under the UN Defense Forces Mandate, but remained in service throughout the First Robotech War and the Malcontent Uprisings as a “quick reference”, especially among member-states that were either poorer (and therefore received them as gifts from the wealthier nations) or were “fringe members” (such as the United States). During the War with the Regent, excess inventories of these were given to Sentinel Allies, and were so in demand that a factory had to be rushed into service on Tirol to produce them.

Solid Color Shoulder Sleeves

Unlike the rank insignia sleeves, the RDF and REF, and even the ASC, considered Solid Color Shoulder Sleeves to be official indicators; Not of RANK, but of TITLE. For example, the RDF’s Air Squadrons used the red shoulder sleeves as indicators of fueling crew. Exact meaning changed by unit; Gunnery units used red to indicate gunners (the guy who actually pulls the trigger), while infantry used red to indicate a medic (easier to see). These were used only in Trops, never in combat uniforms. Black, grey or red were the only colors available, and had no stripes (though some units put rank insignia devices, both metal and cloth, on anyways; nowhere was it written they couldn’t). Rank insignias were sometimes attached to the sleeves for quick reference by visiting personnel, though again this was strictly against the rules.

Regulation ROBOTECH
Defense/Expeditionary Forces Berets

The RDF issued Berets to the personnel as standard, with color indicating either branch of service or specific command information; For example, Black meant RDF Spacy Pilots. Exclusive clutch guard covers interior spring clips. Adjustable drawstring for perfect size fit. Vinyl sweat guard. Lock stitched at all stress points to prevent unraveling. Lined berets feature brass venting eyelets and satin quilted linings for shape retention. 1ŲŲ% Wool-Vat dyed. Woven oversize for smarter draping.
Sizes available: 6¾, 7, 7¼, 7½, 7¾. Each Beret is adjustable ⅛ size up or down.

“Woolly Pully” Uniform Sweater

Originally developed as a lighter alternative to heavy and occasionally TOO warm Bomber Jackets for aircrews, Woolly Pulleys are as durable as it is warm and comfortable, and it even provides some protection against weapons other than heat and laser based. Worn over Trops shirt, no tie, with a long-sleeved undershirt (Underarmor, long johns, etc). If button-style closure epaulets are unavailable, Velcro^®-style closure epaulets may be used, but Type B uniform buttons must be sewn in at the centerline, 1” from the point. Wearing of the Wolly Pully is NOT mandatory, but most people who have them would rather slit their children/spouse/best friends throat than give it up.

Dress Jacket Class B (Trops Long)

Intended only for dress purposes, the dress uniform jacket was NOT typically issued to REF personnel. 1138^TH MP Battalion was the ONLY operational command that was issued the jackets to all personnel (due to their proximity to the REF senior brass). However, any REF Personnel could order them; Many did. The jacket, however, was NOT available to Sentinel Allies. The example shown is a Men’s Jacket; Ladies Jackets were exactly opposite, with the cover flap reaching from Right to Left, Neck Guard Left to Right.

Worn over a long-sleeve turtle-neck t-shirt; Should not be worn over a uniform shirt (wrinkles too easily).

Lined for warmth and comfort.

Rated to Flight Suit Standard; Can also be worn over a flight suit for additional protection and warmth.

Dress Jacket Class A (Dress Formal)

Even now rarely worn, the Class A Dress Jacket is the REF version of a tuxedo, and is NEVER issued; However, any REF member can buy one if they wish. This jacket is worn only under the most formal circumstances, such as weddings, funerals, formal dinners, meetings with ambassadors, etc. Only available at REF Supply commands.

Worn over a uniform shirt, this over a long-sleeve turtle-neck t-shirt with a bow tie.

Rated to Flight Suit Standard. The open space in the front does NOT have a protective characteristic.

No epaulets; This is the only major type of jacket or top shirt that does NOT have epaulets.

Four inside pockets for additional materials. Additional Armor Plates can be inserted behind liner.

Hidden radio pouch in small of back allows use of remote mike or earpeice radio setup.

Concealed breast pockets allow badge holders (ID or LE) to be hung from coat if nessecary.

1138^TH MP Battalion Badge

1138^TH MP Battalion had this badge issued to them by Admiral HAYES-HUNTER. The command name, “Defense Objectives Guardianship Service” was a play on words; 1138^TH MP Battalion was infamous for their RABID defense of the then-late Admiral Henry J GLOVALSKI against Anti-Unificationists who had forcibly allied themselves to Field Marshal Anatole LEONARD (much to his annoyance), called in the pro-LEONARD press the “mere dogs”; 1138^TH adopted this as “Defenders Of GLOVAL Squadron.” For their defense of the late great Admiral GLOVALSKI, Admiral HAYES-HUNTER christened 1138^TH the “Defense Objectives Guardianship Service” to justify the FORMAL acronym “DOGS.” ONLY 1138^TH had this particular badge; All other MP commands badges were similar, but with normal wording (“REF MILITRY/POLICE/BATTALION/battalion number”).

Built in holographic display (similar to the type used in field computers and lockets), capable of showing the officer’s identification card ^and/or smaller reports.

2-D video and audio recorder (up to 16 hours of memory).

REF Dress Sword

Modeled after the widely used and highly popular Spanish Saber, the hilt, hilt guard and blade are made from stainless steel with an ergonomic grip molded from a rugged high density compound, providing excellent comfort and handling. Perfectly balanced and virtually maintenance free.

39” long blade.

All metal components are Stainless Steel construction, with a finely honed OR blunted tip (buyer’s preference).

Dress Sword Belt

This dress belt is rarely used, and only with some dress uniforms. However, when worn, it shall be worn with sword and sidearm. Only 1138^TH MP Battalion was issued them outright (as the senior brass’ body guard unit). Ceremonial and Funeral commands are also issued them outright. The one presented above is probably from an MP unit, with a combination sword/baton ring, cuff case (probably single), double mag case, radio pouch, and sidearm holster (along with the shoulder strap).

Standard Gun Belt

All too common in the militry, UGC gunbelts hold a service member’s gear close to their body; Holsters, clip pouches, mace cases, cuff cases, etc. Anything they need is close to hand but easily removable if necessary with the triple-point buckle in the front; The triple-retention buckle also makes it just above impossible for an attacker to remove the belt in a fight. Usually held on by 4 to 6 belt keepers. Each service member is at their discretion how to assemble their components, but are restricted to the authorized equipment, and are required to have ALL authorized gear their command directs. The belt above has, from left to right, Silent Key Keeper, Key Keeper, Universal Radio Holster, Flashlight Ring, Cuff Case, Small CS/CN/OC Canister Holster, Latex Glove Pouch, Colapsible Baton Sheath, Double Mag Pouch, and Baton Ring. It also has two belt keepers, rather than the normal four. (This one is probably for display only, since it doesn’t have a pistol holster and is short on belt keepers.)

Triple-retention buckle prevents accidental release or removal by the enemy, while allowing quick removal by the wearer.

Combat Thigh Holster

Used by DOGS (1138^TH MP Battalion) and Henry J GLOVALSKI Militia as well as others (including the Anarchist Militia of California), but developed by the New Earth Collective (the New York militia made famous for their conversion outright to Wicca and their book “The Wichita Burnings”), it starts with an overall a standard thigh holster. However the straps used to hold the holster up to gunbelt are replaced with a knife sheath; In this particularly exotic example, the knife is a United Cutlery^® Sentry^® combat knife. Rumor has it this one was Captain Anita HOUSTON-FONTAIN of the Anarchist’s own holster, though she was not even known to carry a sidearm (being a sniper). (A Redgun was used and the leg strap was cropped for the photo).

Pistol Holster and Knife Sheath are standard in all such examples.

Some examples have clip pouches (this one has three).
Price: Varied, but a general price of $6Ų^ŲŲ for all parts and labor is fairly normal.

RDF Emblem

The RDF adopted this emblem as part of the UN Security Council Resolution creating the RDF itself. It’s exact history is lost to antiquity, though it is known the idea behind the design was that it did not match any known militry design, and had a stylized star effect. The REF version of the patch had a black or red bifurcation down the center. The only “authorized” variations are blue (rather than yellow) borders for Global Civil War veterans and green for Tśentrędi personnel (a tradition that remains). Though never authorized, U.E.S. MACROSS (SDF-ŲŲ1) veterans also had a large “M” stitched into the center. As the REF formed, some RDF vets, when supplies virtually evaporated, took their RDF emblem and either stitched the black line OR took a black marker and drew it in; Most, however, did not do so (as authorized by UNIMAN §2145874992.3.A.ii.c).

Made of stiff material, but without iron-on glue (the glue was SPECIFICALLY banned under UNIMAN §2145874992.7.C.iv.h, due to fire concerns).
