Palace : Capital
of Hemro
Times are hard in palace,
even people who would not usually become mercenaries have done, not without
dilemmas. Being a mercenary has become more acceptable then it once was.
Installment 2 The Game Setting
The Town (see
attached map)
You are standing in North
Gate Square. The noise is immense. The air is very odorous with a rotten
fruity smell. The square is densely surrounding by shops and stalls where
bartering is aggressive, you pick your way amongst the crowd. Litter,
human waste, beggars and the sick are common sites.
Looking off in the distance
you see wall marching upon wall, all with high arches and made of local
grey/blue stone. Palace is a town of many walls and avenues. You look
down the main avenue of the town, as it rises and finally ends at the
palace. The royal palace of King Voulon stands on a low hill amongst a
stand of bronze pine trees and manicured gardens, looking out over the
town. Off to your right the tall spires of the town’s famous collection
of cathedrals challenge the sky.
The inner heart of Palace
was once well planned. There being walled sections for the palace, the
cathedrals, the wealthy homes, the warehouses and business districts.
However, such organisation was gradually eroded especially by new and
chaotic additions to the town.
The political setting is tense.
Taxes are high, and theft and murder are on the increase as the town’s
poorer citizens struggle to survive. Organized crime is also on the increase
while the town’s guards are finding it harder and harder to retain order.
And most disquieting is the pervasive feeling that the king can no longer
maintain control.
The Country
Palace is located in a country
called Hemro, which King Voulon rules. Hemro is a middle sized country,
landlocked and ringed by alps.
The economy of Hemro is based
on its agriculture. Hemro has little forests left to log, plenty of stone
(however this is difficult to transport). Metal is scarce. Hemro has had
on-going wars with its neighbour Ballon contesting the castle crags, which
is a series of important mines in the border regions between the two nations.
The Game World (see
attached map)
The game world is called Erden.
It is a self-created game world with a diversity of languages, cultures
and environments. Palace
