As The Notables grows in stature, our needs grow as well. Among the most pressing need we as a performance troupe face today is a home for our non-revenue performances. (A revenue performance is one in which The Notables is hired to perform, usually with theatre and tech crew supplied.) I invite each one of you to participate in a survey of any and all performance halls, arenas, et al. that you are aware of and to respond using the attached survey form. The scoring breakdown is posted below followed by a glossary of theatre terms.
To begin, put a 1 on the page line in the upper left corner of the scorecard. Write in your name (it is needed), then your phone (optional--however, we have ways of finding you). Next, list the name of the hall in the top box of the first scoring column. You can score up to seven halls on one scorecard.
Next, as you move down each column for a particular theatre, simply fill in a number corresponding to each criterion posted on the scorecard. Example, Johnson Hall is less than five miles from St. John’s, therefore, you would enter a 7 in the Johnson Hall column. That’s it! Relying on your memory is perfectly OK, I do not expect you to drive out to every hall and personally observe it, however, if you are not sure about something of importance and are willing to research in person or by phone, by all means do so. (For example, if you cannot remember if the hall has a PA system, you might call the office and inquire or personally visit the site and see for yourself.)
If you have pertinent comments about a particular criterion of a particular hall, please list the hall-category-criterion number sequence on the back side of the scorecard and write in your comment.
Example: If you had a comment about the third hall’s seating configuration, you would enter on the back side
Finally, survey any and all places that you have performed in or know of within a 100-mile radius of El Segundo. You have sung in Fellowship Hall, Johnson Hall, Armstrong Theatre, Joslyn Center (El Segundo). You have sung in concerts and services at various sanctuaries of churches, you have attended concerts at Norris Theatre, Dorothy Chandler, the Hollywood Bowl. You know about that the little theatre by the bowling alley on Crenshaw in Torrance. (Do not include makeshift stages at outdoor fairs such as Arts Alive.)
Almost every one of you should be able to list at least six or seven venues. If you have more to survey, simply start a new sheet with the number 2 in the upper left corner and so on. Use as many sheets as you need--there’s plenty of paper in your printer.
IMPORTANT! I know that I will get over 35 responses regarding the Armstrong for example, but only two for the church near your house. That is OK. In other words, I need to collect as many independent responses as possible. We will be loading this data into a makeshift data base, then analyzing the results. The intent is to maximize our options, then shorten the list of legitimate candidates for further research.
Out ultimate goal here is to find a worthy and affordable home for the performances we mount on our own once (sometimes twice) a year in which 100% of the gate proceeds belongs to The Notables.
Please bring completed hardcopy scorecards to any of the first three rehearsals (7/30 – 8/13) or send results back via eMail by 8/13/2003. Thank you for your time and effort.
