Why Do Men Have Nipples? |
Basically, both male's and female's breasts are the same, but the male's don't get
enough of estrogen (female hormone), so guys don't get to produce milk (d'u want
to anyway?). Experts on sex hormones said that the development of nipples in
men has been restricted during the early stages. A doctor from a university in
New York adds that the presence of the nipples in both sexes shows that the basic
body plan of men and women is similar. The function, well, other than probably
just cushioning the heart from and lungs from injury, is nothing. However,
the doctor points out that the tissue is still there and can still be made
useful. As commonly seen in male-alcoholics, the abnormal enlargement of the
breasts in men, gynaecomastia, when there's an excess of estrogen, this shows
that it's possible for guys to milk. |
