The involuntary act of yawning includes opening the mouth widely while slowly taking in a deep breath. When we yawn, we put pressure on the main tear glands, which is around the eye sockets. We might also put pressure on the salivary glands, which is around the jaws, if we struggle to keep the mouth close while opening the throat widely.
