Magic by the Week Days
By Bill W.

Using the guidance of the sun, stars, and moon in daily life has always intrigued me. The following guide is one I use for undertaking activities in general:

  • Monday - Moon's day is ruled by the Moon and is a feminine day of power. This is a time for emotional work and magic concentrating upon intuition, dreamwork, psychic ability, protection and warding, and inner change.
  • Tuesday - This is the day of the gods of war and as such is a day of battles and power. Work that focuses upon spiritual challenges, personal battles, confrontation and conflict resolution, protection, and banishing is suited to a Tuesday.
  • Wednesday - Woden's day, and the time of messages, Wednesday is ideal for communication, communion, and revelations.
  • Thursday - The day of Thor, I find Thursday is a day of honesty and compassion. But take care as it can affect spells is unexpected ways, bringing Thor's bluntness to bear. Still, a day of power suited to any spellwork, Thursday is ideal for prosperity and success magic.
  • Friday - The day of lovers, Fridays is devoted to amorous spells as well as those less passionate. Work on friendship, relationship, and lust.
  • Saturday - Saturn's day is a day to banish, cleanse, and bind. Try and avoid other work this day as the energy is better suited to undoing.
  • Sunday - Sun's day is a masculine day of power, bringing the heat and healing of the sun to all things physical. A day to construct and create. Focus more upon the physical than emotional today.

Lunar Planting Guide
By Callum Mostyn

moon phases

The Last Quarter Moon: with the arrival of the barren moon, avoid planting - especially if you already have a black thumb. It simply compounds the issues. Focus on weeding and harvesting only.

The New Moon: remember - sowing, planting and transplanting! Or, if you feel a little destructive, why not try some pruning and cutting back? New growth will be encouraged, and your inner tenseness will be alieviated!

The Second Quarter Moon: energy is still flowing strongly, so continue your planting (or chopping) with wild abandon.

The Full Moon: with the full moon comes a shift in energy. Root vegetables planted now will flourish and you can start harvesting your herbs and produce.

Lunar Magic
By Bill W.

Using moon phases to increase the efficacy of your spells is a smart idea. Just as the moon's power affects the tides, plant growth, and animal behavior, so too she can influence you magic.

New Moon - This is the time when the moon is completely invisible - the earth's shadow fully blocks the light of the sun. New Moon spells are very strong - and often unpredictable in the way of creation - for this is the creation time of the moon, and a time of renewal and rebirth.
Consider spells related to beginnings and endings, beauty and health, and improvements.

Second Quarter - Following the Dark Moon is the Waxing Moon when the moon has begun to grow.
Spells of growth and development are most powerful at this time. It's also a good time for fortune and inspirational works

Full Moon - The time of greatest power is usually considered to be the Full Moon - although I believe the Dark Moon is just as powerful. Magic at this time has greater direction and control.
Any spells requiring both power and focus upon a specific result are best worked now (as opposed to the Dark Moon's less controlled magic). Work on spells for artistry and psychic abilities, to work on fertility, healing, guidance, and revelations.

Waning Moon - As the Full Moon ends, the moon begins to wane, getting smaller each day. This is not a time of little power, though - despite appearances. Rather it is a reminder to cast out the things that need removing from your life.
Spells of banishing, cleansing, purification, and ending are best done now.

Dark Moon - The Dark Moon is the three days before the New Moon, when there is no moon in the sky. This is a time of great power - the time of death and transition. A liminal state, it exists between times. This is a time of rest and dormancy. This is the change between life and death and rebirth. Take this time to turn inward and seek knowledge and wisdom. A time to acknowledge changes and meditate on your own path and choices.
Spells for self-improvement are best done now, as well as meditation, self-healing, and communion with the dark gods.
