Thoughts from a Kitchen Witch

By Christine

The idea of being a Kitchen Witch enthralls me but I never quite manage to do it. Most the time I'm too busy to remember to "focus my thoughts" as I stir the pasta sauce, or I feel so silly reciting some charm over the dough I'm kneading for dinner rolls. But there is one area in which my inner witch comes to the fore and that is in the arena of passion.

I don't know if it's the ancient association of food with love and lust or what. But when it comes to cooking and naughty thoughts I am so there. And, if I do say so myself, I am very good (or should that be wicked?) at it. Many a passionate night has begun innocently enough at the table. So, in light of my expertise I thought I might share a few pointers.

Preparations
Aside from the meal itself, there are a number of aspects you should always take the time to get right. Things like decorations, settings, music, lighting, and so on are crucial to creating the tone for the evening. They are just as much ingredients in your spell as any dash of spice. Color, texture, scent, and magical correspondences should play a significant part in this. Use your knowledge to promote the atmosphere you desire.

That said you also need to think about supporting this atmosphere with mundane objects. A light and spicy evening lends more to brighter, bolder colors than soft and dreamy. Salsa music will ruin a serious and intellectually stimulating discussion. Scents should complement not overwhelm the meal. Lighting should be neither glaringly bright nor so dim you make out with the hat stand by mistake.

Think carefully about what you plan to place on the table. Is the covering one that invites the fingers to stroke or caress? Maybe there are tassels to play with. A bowl of luscious, ripe mangoes or pomegranates may tempt the nose and invite a fondle. Maybe you'd prefer a vase of floating candles and glittering marbles? If using flowers or candles make sure they are suitable to a night of romance. Lilies of the Valley represent purity and chastity, not lust, for example.

Take care not to place large centerpieces that will block your view of each other. And, on the topic of blocking each other, keep the music soft enough that you can have a conversation without shouting or straining to hear.

The meal
I could discuss recipes and spells here, but we each practice our own. Instead I think it's important to point out the complementary magic that should accompany your spell work. Things such as serving dishes - avoid cracked and chipped ones as these can impact upon the relationship (and also contraception which may be disastrous). Rewash each item and polish it up with the towel before setting the places - this will bring a positive reflection to the eyes of those who participate in the meal. It will also work to reflect the spell, increasing its effectiveness.

Setting the places with care is always important. Work deosil (if Northern Hemisphere, widdershins for Southern) - and if possible, try and set them mirror-style, one left and one right-handed. When we mirror each other, we increase our sense of attraction and liking. You don't need to eat the wrong way around though.

Bless the water and other drinks before pouring to banish negativity and bring good luck and the blessings of the gods. Include a small icon sacred to the sex-god/dess of your preference with an appropriate offering.

Consider having at least one joint dish to be served at the table. Meals where we partake from the same bowl represent union and togetherness. Serving each other from common dishes can be a very sensual and sexual act. Also, keep the meal light with small portions - a stuffed stomach is less conducive to frisky behavior and more likely to lead to less pleasant after-effects.

Finally, enjoy yourself. Having fun is contagious and very sexy. If anything doesn't go according to plan, then let it change. Be adaptive and quick on your feet and most of all, be a little spontaneous.
