The May 10, 1883 issue of the Lawrenceburg Weekly Press carried the following brief obituary on page five: "Mrs. Zack Sanks who formerly lived near Wilson creek, died at her home in Greensburg, Saturday, of typhoid pneumonia, after an illness of only three days. The remains are expected today, and will be interred in the Reese burying ground. Mrs. Sanks was about sixty years old and a most estimable woman."Mary¹s death record with Dearborn County shows she died on May 5, 1883 in Dillsboro, of pneumonia. She was listed as a white female, Mary A. Sanks, married, a native of Indiana, and a housewife. She died at 63 years, 9 mos, 22 days. Her father is shown as Joseph Cowles, and her mother as Rebecca C.[known to be Rebecca Cole].
