Rasmus News:
New single - Shot - international release date April 21st.
It is released as an EP with bonus tracks (two live tracks, Keep Your Heart Broken and Shot, recorded in Germany plus an unreleased acoustic version of Open My Eyes).
New video - Shot.
Filmed by the foot of the holy mountain of Tindaya on the island Fuerteventura, 100 kilometers off the coast of Morocco, the video well captures the energy of The Rasmus live performance. It is set up to look rather otherworldly, with a dramatic sky with several moons and suns, and an eerie spacy look to it. The visuals are stunning. The video was directed by Sandra Marschner/Katapult Film, who has done Children of Bodom's "In Your Face" video among others.
The Rasmus is currently touring the globe, after three dates together with Metallica and other bands in South Africa, they are now in South America for a six date tour there. Then follows a stretch of summer festivals, all confirmed dates are found on www.therasmus.com. More dates will be added soon!
Check out the new video at www.myspace.com/therasmus! Spread the word and the videolink on the site to your friends!

THE RASMUS: THE DOCUMENTARY
"A brand new 1 hour documentary about The Rasmus was previewed last Monday in Helsinki. Aki, Lauri and Eero were there, as well as friends, families, their live crew, invited media and a few lucky fans. This was the first screening of the film, which will be broadcast in Finland on YLE-TV2 on Sunday, 9th of April, 2006 at 3.15 p.m.
"The Rasmus: The Documentary" tells the success story of The Rasmus.
The documentary looks back on the past of the band and tells the story of how success affected the 15-16 year old guys more than ten years ago. It also covers the international break through later on and the feelings related to it. The band members (Lauri Ylönen, Pauli Rantasalmi, Eero Heinonen and Aki Hakala) talk openly about their experiences of dealing with the success and the challenges it has brought about.
The camera crew follows the band closely during the recording and release of the 6th studio album, Hide From The Sun. We see The Rasmus, for example, in the studio in Stockholm, on promotional tours across Europe, at the videoshoot for Sail Away in Latvia and numerous gigs and festivals around Europe. In addition there is plenty of unreleased archive footage of the band, and interviews with people around the band.
This is the first documentary ever made about The Rasmus, and the members themselves like the idea of being captured like this. "I enjoyed the documentary, it gives quite a positive memory from everything from band's history", says bassist Eero Heinonen. "It was especially nice to see some old footage when we were young and thin and funny punks. Now there exists some kind of organized document of this band's career. We just have to keep it going for another 10 years at least."
Everyone knows The Rasmus by name and appearance, but very rarely we hear the band talking openly about their real feelings as successful rock stars. The idea of the documentary was to reveil what sort of thoughts and feelings there are behind the success and glamour.
"It was a very challenging task to do the kind of documentary we wanted," says the producer Terja Salaspuro. "The Rasmus are quite reserved towards the media, as professional artists tend to be. In order to come up with some "real stuff", we had to bombard the guys with numerous questions and let the tape roll. We were praying that at some point they would be too tired to remember to play any roles and would let the curtain fall down."
"The biggest compliment for us was when to Eicca Toppinen from Apocalyptica told that he had cried 5 times during watching the documentary. So there must be some real feelings captured on the tape!" says Terja Salaspuro.
The team behind the film:
Director: Tommi Mattila (Documentaries: HIMmeetä Valoa/TV2 (documentary on HIM), Viva Rock 'n' Roll! - On Tour With The Flaming Sideburns/TV2 and Ibiza Documentary/Channel 4 Finland. In addition several TV commercials, short films and music videos.
Journalist: Timo Ihoaso (Music journalist for several Finnish newspapers and magazines such as Aamulehti, Soundi, Rumba, Suosikki, SoneraPlaza, etc.)
Producer: Terja Salaspuro (Documentaries: HIMmeetä Valoa/TV2, Ibiza Documentary/Channel 4 Finland and Viva Rock 'n' Roll! - On Tour With The Flaming Sideburns/TV2. Tv programmes: Idols/MTV3, Sessions/SubTV, Pop-komissio/YLE-TV1, Head of Music Dept./Moon TV.)

POSTCARDS FROM JAPAN
TOKYO FEBRUARY 28TH
"hello, we arrived today in japan, tokyo. it's exciting to be here again. i went for a short shopping trip with aki and lauri, trying to find a suitcase for lauri and taking few breaths of fresh winter air on the streets (after a 4 hours delayed sas flight. the gold medal belongs to finland, after all.) a lot of people here. this culture is so different... interesting, good... food is good. i recommend the teppan-yaki tunafish, 't was great!"

NAGOYA MARCH 2ND
"we played our 2nd japanese concert today, in nagoya. we thought that wasn't gonna be full house, so we were positively surprised by the good vibes and good audience that there was. the concert felt very good and there was just this feeling of cracking some jokes in the air... nice. we played "days" in the acoustic set today, people enjoyed it. this japanese city living makes me feel like in the movie blade runner, we just function in the 7th to 10th floor of buildings, passing from building to another through bridges... sometimes you get peeks of people who are living at the street level, but this is all so layered... on the street you might walk into a bar or noodle place which can fit only 4 people... music all around... lot of neon lights... rain, umbrellas, masses of people, strange writing symbols..."

MORE POSTCARDS FROM JAPAN
03.03.2006
"Hello, today we played a concert in Osaka. Lauri: "It's a good feeling that is radiating from the people in the audience, it's like they are very innocent, good people, not cynical at all, I feel very comfortable performing in front of them." The gig was very good, very spontaneous, it seems like we are getting along well with Japanese people. Great! They even like our jokes! We played F-F-F-Falling today, as some man in the front row requested it... we haven't played it in a long while and it was lot of fun.
After the show we had a dinner in an expensive italian style restaurant, too small portions and it was a bit of disappointment. Afterparty in rockrock bar (great name), but i passed that one. Tomorrow to Kyoto to visit buddhist temples and to find out how buddhism was established in Asia."

"hello, we are almost finished with the japanese tour. found this funny door in osaka. we made a visit to kyoto where we saw beautiful temples and forests, especially the zen monastery or resthouse felt good to me. i think it was called ryokaishi-gu or something similar... these places must have been very serene and beautiful at the times when there were no big cities around here... also the springs at the temples were very captivating. the air is clear and the weather good, we got some nice panoramic pics over kyoto.
today we played a festival called independence-D, it was a good experience, a challenge for us as there was audience from other bands as well, and the rasmus fans made a good job encouraging the others to party on with them and i enjoyed the concert well. i think we are making a good advance in building up a fanbase in japan. big thanks to the band called Mucc, which probably is the main reason for us to have the precious slot in the festival... they put on a great show! (and you should check out their stuff too)
thanks to all of you who came to see us at the concerts, and we hope that we can come soon again to the land of sushi and sake! Sayonara!"

Video Shoot Stopped
"The Rasmus video shoot in Fuerteventura was stopped yesterday due to extremely bad and unexpected weather conditions. Rain and heavy sand storms made it impossible to film, as the technical quipment virtually blew away from the set.
The Rasmus are now off to tour in Germany, Austria and Switzerland, and the video can hopefully be shot after the tour."
