Kesac 17: Choices

Locale: Interior of mountains around Phoenix Cave

                    -|========-

Kesac looked back at the entrance. "Can't continue
climbing the mountain this way. But where does this
tunnel lead? Kesac shrugged and started walking down
the tunnel...away from the rockslide that had covered
his path back.

                    -|========-

"Choices...the essence of life. One choice can lead
to success, while another may lead to failure. You
must be careful in the choices you take. Even the
most little choices can influence your life greatly...
do you understand?" Kesac nodded to his father. "So
even choosing one road of two, or what to buy from a
store, can change my life?" His father nodded. "If
there is a bag of gold down one road, and not the other,
then that choice makes a difference. You must be
careful what you choose. Now we must get back to
training..."

                    -|========-

Kesac walked forward into the tunnels. As he approached
an intersection, he thought of what his father had told
him. -I must make the right choice...- Kesac thought
deeply inside. The tunnel to the left had a reddish
tent, looking like there were fires further down in the
tunnel. The tunnel to the right however looked calm.
Eerily calm. -Looks can be deceiving...- Kesac looked
down the paths carefully. -Something's odd about that
right path...it looks a little too calm...- Kesac shrugged
and started walking down the left path...

...and heard a crash behind him. As he walked back, he
noticed that the right path had caved in just as he had
started walking down the left path. -As I suspected...-
Kesac nodded and walked down toward the glow.

-Phew...it's getting hot...but I have no choice...I must
go on...- Kesac stopped and looked further down the tunnel.
-Monsters...- Kesac put his hand on the hilt of his
sword... -Wait a second...maybe if I wait here, they
will not see me, and I will be able to sneak past where
they were. No need to rush into an unnecessary fight...-
Kesac walked back toward a rock that jutted a bit out from
the walls of the tunnel. -This looks like a good place
to hide...- As he hid behind the rock, he heard an almost
human voice...

"Did you get the stranger climbing up the mountain?"
Mumbled grunts followed. "You THINK you did? Make sure!
Find the body! No one shall steal my crest!" Kesac
almost jumped. -The...body? So THAT'S who pushed the
rocks off...crest?- Kesac waited for the monsters to
leave... -I have to find out more about this crest...-
Kesac stood up and headed into the depths of the
mountain, where unknown dangers waited...

OOC: Meant for this to be longer, but 1 week warning cut
it short.  To be continued...
