The Gyrspike

What the hell is a gyrspike?

It is essentially, a longsword and a flail with a single extended handle in common. The blade extending from one end, and the chain of the flail extending from the other.

Is there really such a weapon?

Honestly I don’t know. I have studied medieval weaponry as a hobby, but never seen a weapon like the gyrspike. Of course that doesn’t mean there never was such a weapon. And since first hearing of it myself, I haven’t had time to research the its historical accuracy.

So where the heck did I hear of it?

Well, my first exposure to the gyrspike was the D&D 3rd edition book Sword and Fist a supplement for players of fighters and monks. The gyrspike later reappeared in the Arms and Equipment Guide.

Why us it?

Because I thought it sounded cool, and when working up my alts I like to use the D&D system because it lends itself so well to Furc. At least it does imo.
