Text Box:
VERSATILE VINCE AND THE VELTONES.

Probably one of the best known Fife "POP" groups in the Leven area is Vince Newman and the Veltones. These young men
teamed up about 18 months ago, and since then have gone from strength to strength.
They have appeared at Fountainbridge Palais in Edinburgh and the Allan Water Hotel, Stirling.
Just now they are appearing weekly at Markinch Town Hall-and are so popular that some of the local girls have the group's
name stencilled on the backs of their blouses.
They recently had an audition for STV's "One Night Stand" programme. What must be the basis of the group's appeal is the
versatility of the singer, Vince Newman. He woos the audience with" Ave Maria" and next he has them swinging to the beat of "Candyman". Vince and the boys recently secured a contract in Kirkcaldy and when the Burma Ballroom opened on Saturday,
April the 25th, it had Vince Newman and the Veltones as one of the opening groups.
They were also going to be the resident band at The Burma. Vince and the Veltones have also appeared, and will again, at the Sunday spectacular show  "ROCKORAMA" in Leven.

                        The Senate Showband

The Kimbos and the fabulous Mackinley Sisters

Dec 26             The Drovers

The Senates were a comparatively new 7 piece band from Glasgow, featuring organ, saxophones and guitars.

The Kimbos were led by Andy Semple, a happy-go-lucky sort of young chap who played rhythm guitar. He was at pains to

point out that the Pavilion was one of the best ballrooms in the country, saying it was like a palace compared to some of the

places they had to play in down south. What made the Kimbos stand out among many modern pop groups of the time was that

they were versatile enough to play ballroom and old time equally as well as the twist and the shake!
