It was a sort of concert/jam/showcase/celebration/party/gathering of musical friends.
There's some contention as to when the first PalmStalk was held.
It's EB's belief that the first one was held in August 1971, as a kind of birthday and farewell party, EB-goes-into-the-Army, Buddy-goes-away-to-college kind of thing, and that the consecutive numbers don't necessarily imply consecutive years.
Both JB and Wayne believe that the first PS was held in 1974 as a Jack, Buddy and EB birthday kinda thing, a date they arrive at by counting back from photos they have of the PS III sign dated '76. 1974 would also be EB's first summer home from the Army...
We're waiting for more opinions - or hard evidence - to make the final determination!
Whichever, it wound up being a nearly annual event while Tacoma was together, at one time drawing a crowd of almost two hundred family and friends. After the end of Tacoma in 1981, it turned into an occasional reunion/end of summer event, until just too many of us had moved out of town or out of state.
After many "missed" years, the last-ever was held in 1995.
