Neo·Geo High Scores

"Cartridge cartridge on the shelf, who is better than myself?" Now it's time to find out! Submit those record-breaking high scores and see just who is the best of them all. Dust off those old games and give the on-line world a score to beat, following the game-specific criteria.

The Rules

Sending me screen shots is the best way to go about it, as it serves as "proof" of the score. I however am assuming that no one's going to be petty enough to lie so naturally MVS and home system scores are welcome, as well as emu scores you may have lost when deleting the ROM. I know some arcade operators turn off the level display, so if you don't know the difficulty, just leave it blank, or try to find out.

It was brought to my attention, so scores obtained on ports of Neo games are also applicable if, and only if, the score is not attained with a character or using a sceret not selectable/available on the Neo·Geo. If you play Magical Drop 2 on the Super Famicom that's fine, but I won't accept a score you got with The Black Clown, since he's not available in the MVS original. Once the numbers start coming in, I will work to keep this section as up-to-date as possible. I think competition amongst fellow fans is one of the best aspects of video games and if you're here, it's probable that you feel similarly about that.

I will leave name submissions open to real names, screen names or just initials; whatever you feel like calling yourself.  All I ask is that whatever name/collection of initials you do submit, please stick with it so we will always know whom you are.

Gokusama26 aka Daisuke Jigen has graciously offered to maintain the high scores section in place of me therefore all entries should be sent to him. Give him a thank you everyone. I for now am leaning towards the top 10/title, though I can always change that number, or base it on what each game allows (top 5 in KoF '94, top 100 in Pop 'n Bounce and so on). Some games have what seem to be so many stats that nobody would remember them all except I think we have already lost our best scores, so in getting them back, you can take note of what's being asked for here.  Essnetially all I am doing is collecting what the original high score screens did, with the odd improvement here and there.  If there is a general concensus that some stats do not belong, whether game-specific or general, I will remove them.  Limit one entry per person per game. Contestants must have spent some not inconsiderate portion of their life playing. Anyone affiliated with this site, that being me, is also eligible to participate, and believe me I will. Void if tampered with.

Now, before we get started.

To get the ball rolling and to provide some examples, I keyed in a few numbers below. Also please note the following:

  • Mode applies to the MVS version or home equivalent in 1 player mode only, except with 3 Count Bout.
  • Stage is the stage you died on, if applicable.
  • Difficulty Level applies to both home and MVS settings.
  • Explanations & Clarifications
  • Top Hunter will use the following abbreviations for the planets: Forest (F), Ice (I), Wind (W), Fire (Fi).
  • Hirameki Mode in Magical Drop 2 is only available in the Japanese language mode.
  • In Zed Blade the pilots are as follows: Uncle Beard (slow), Ms.Charlotte (medium) and Swift Arnold (fast). You can check this in the demonstration.
  • Dunk Dream has a separate listing from Street Hoop/Slam since it has no halves of the game, but simply one game set to whatever play time is on. Also I'm assuming the game time is on 2:00. If necessary, I'll create another column for Game Time.
  • With the Metal Slug series, please select three "3" heroes if you play it at home.
  • For the early home games like Magician Lord, Nam 1975, Puzzled and so on which had no selectable difficulty, just use home as the difficulty level.
  • As for the ultra rare and unreleased games, I suggest you download the ROM files and use NeoRAGE X for optimum emulation and a nice Shots Factory.

Want Hyper Neo·Geo 64 and Neo·Geo Pocket rankings? E-mail me to let me know what stats should be recorded for any game, and I shall create as well as host appropriate lists.

And finally, if things get out of hand, lies and misbehaviour, flaming the club to death etc. then I will simply take this section down. I'm not afraid to do so.

Here is something I though worthwhile, as I will not fund an on-site BBS.  I have created a Yahoo! club called The Neo·Geo Scoreboard where we can go and verbally battle out how we managed to get such high scores.  I.e. you can defend what others don't believe, exchange strategic tips on how to defeat the computer or how to gain huge point bonuses in such and such game, explain cpu patterns in addition to how you have learnt to capitalize on them and so on, if you're not afraid of sharing with others.  I'll see you there!
