About the Author
Yeah, yeah, yeah... I know most of the people who are visiting this site could care less about knowing about me, but here it is anyway. ^_^

Name: Melissa McClendon Age: Hehehe... We won't go into that. ^_~ Country: I'm from the good ol' United States Race: Well, I'm pretty sure I'm human, but questions have been raised. ^_~ (Don't ask me why I added this part, I figured since I did it for the characters I'd do for me too.) Alias: Most people familiar with my work know I also go by the name "Dei", which is short for Deinara. While my writings are under my pen name, I'm known as Dei just about everywhere else. |
I'm currently a sophomore at the University of Oklahoma. Whoo-hoo, go Sooners! (I can't believe I said that, I hate football... ^_^) I'm an Astrophysics major. What the hell is an Astrophysics major, you ask? Well, if I knew... ^_~ No. Astrophysics in the most basic terms is applying the laws of Physics to modern Astronomy, the result being one hell of a mess causing the deaths of numerous undergraduate Astrophysics majors (This is also why I have no time to write). How did I choose something like that? Well, I've always loved Astronomy and during high school, I was lucky enough to get accepted to OSSM (Oklahoma School of Science and Mathematics), where I was pointed in the direction of the field. (Yes, I am aware of the fact that I'm a nerd, but I blend in so well in society that people don't catch on for awhile. ^_~) I am, however, considering leaving the field for what I've always wanted to: writing. Even as a child, it's what I've always wanted to do. So, while I still have enough time, I may switch over and double-major in History and Journalism. So in a couple of years, if you see a short Irish girl from Oklahoma spouting off the laws of Thermodynamics living on the streets because she can't support herself, that will probably be me. ^_~ If I do change, I will regret not being able to prove my theory on White Holes. Oh well, I'm sure Stephen Hawking would have beat me to it anyway.
Hmm... My favorite type of game is, naturally, the RPG. I do, however, enjoy a good survival horror game every once in awhile. The Silent Hill Series is just out-right awesome! Yeah, go Konami! ^_^ Before that though, Resident Evil wasn't bad for its time, I just don't think it stands up to the caliber of Silent Hill. I need an awesome story in games and Silent Hill took the cake for that genre in my opinion. I also enjoy fighting games every once in awhile. (Old school Killer Instinct was great, but my new obsession is beating everyone at Super Smash Bros. Melee with Sheik. I love to team up with Link and mop the floor with everyone. ^_^)
Anyway, back to the RPG. There were three games I played all around the same time as a kid that got me hooked on them. Final Fantasy 1 (Ah, roots), The Legend of Zelda (I'm sure everyone remembers the show! ^_^), and Archus Odyssey. My favorite games/RPGs of all time are Xenogears and Star Ocean: the Second Story. I instantly fell in love with Xenogears, it was the type of story I had always dreamed of (damn Square for screwing up the second disc), not to mention it featured one of my greatest obsessions, Citan Uzuki. I was extremely fascinated with his and his wife Yui's story, their relationship, etc. It was the focus of several stories I've written, some published and some not. Star Ocean, I'm not sure if I can really explain my obsession with it... It was a great game but other great games have come out since then too and I'm still obsessed with it... I think a lot of it has to do with the potential I saw in the story. The things Enix left out, etc. The story of Noel Chandler for example. I had several fascinations stem from that game: Bowman and Nineh Jean, Filia, and Noel Chandler. These fascinations evolved into the Star Ocean RPG I played in for two years which then evolved into The Wise Man Chronicles. I have played countless RPGs, including many obscure ones, so going into every one of them would take entirely too long. I'll just suffice to say that I love the Final Fantasy Series (I may elaborate on that more later) and I have most of them (I refuse to own Mystic Quest). I also enjoy Atlus games like Brigandine and Persona, and collect their more rare titles. Konami is also one of the only companies out there left who hasn't screwed something I loved up. Vandal Hearts 1 falls under the Old School category in my opinion because I doubt a lot of the newer gamers today would like it. But I recommend Vandal Hearts 2 at least because the story in that game was great and if you can get past the sheer annoyance of the new add-ins on the battle system, its a game well worth playing. They also have the Castlevania series, an old favorite of mine, but I'm starting to think its going to hell, like the Legend of Zelda... ::sniffle::
I'm currently reading Stephen King's Dark Tower Series in conjunction with my school work and I think it's truly a masterpiece. I can't wait for Book 5, Wolves of Calla, to come out in the fall. I'm a huge fan of Frank Herbert's Dune Series and would recommend it to anyone. I feel its a beautifully done series combining all of the strengths and weaknesses of humanity as well as human imagination.
On a last note, I know you're already tired of my rambling, I suppose I should mention writing. I first really began fanfic writing with Final Fantasy VII, before I even got a computer and knew other people did this as well. I thought I was crazy for doing it so when I discovered it was common phenomenon when I got online, it was a God-send. Fanfiction is something I do for pure enjoyment while fleshing out my writing skills for my original fiction. My focus is primarily on an original series of novels I began writing years ago (this is where my alias, the name Deinara came from) but with what little time I have right now, I tend to devote it to my fanfiction writing. I've written several fanfics for Xenogears and Star Ocean, a couple for Final Fantasy and a few other more obscure titles like King's Field. These are ones I've bothered to publish online, I have numerous others sitting on my hard drive begging to see the light of day, but I doubt they ever will.
::yawns:: Did I put everyone to sleep with all this rambling? Sorry. ^_^ I just got started and kept going... I never intended for it to be so long. Please forgive me. Well, even though I tried to keep the trauma to a minimum, I'm sure I just scared the hell out of a lot of you. Ah well. ^_~ Everyone take care of yourselves and enjoy The Wise Man Chronicles. Don't forget to sign the Guestbook and drop me an email or IM sometime, I'd love to chat with you and I don't bite, I promise. ^_~
