The 240 Z
My first REAL car!
Of course you know the real reason we moved to Santa Clara for 2 years, it was to find a well-preserved hard-to-find-in-Canada car to bring back. Something that has been spared the wrath of all that foolish salt they insist on tossing about. All because some crotchety old engineer in the Seventies insisted that studded tires wreck the roads and his tests proved that they didn't help a 5 thousand pound car stop on skinny bias ply tires stop much faster on glare ice. But I am off of on a rant... please excuse me while I calm down… That's better, speaking of the Seventies, the car I am talking about is a 1973 Datsun 240Z. I saw it sitting forlornly in the corner of a huge used car lot. It caught my eye mostly because of its hideous orange color, but also because it had the original decals on the side. Don't get all excited! This car is by no means "mint" it has a reported 125,000 miles on it. "Reported" because the odometer only goes to 99,999. This car had obviously been looked after very well, appeared extremely clean, but not "cleaned up" Anyway to make a long story short, I foolishly bought it. It runs perfectly and is great fun to drive; harsh ride great exhaust sound and corners like a go-kart, smells like an old British car, (even without any leather). No power steering, no cup holders! wood steering wheel and shift knob... wonderful! Anyway have a good laugh.
