Bao Zheng, Chu Chu & Zhan Zhao arrived in the capital city and picked up by Gongsun Ce. In the inn they met Luan Wen Hao, Xiang Tian Wen, Zhang Jing, Sai Zhong Yuan, Chui Ming Zhong and also Fei Yan. They also hear the myth of the poem near the lake and the female ghost. People said that 3 years ago, a girl named Yun Shuang commited suicide in this lake because of love, fishes and egrets even cried for her. This story was related to the poem on the stone, if someone can understand the secret of the poem, he will pass the examination and become the officer. And there was also a servant named Zhou Ba Jing who said that he saw the death of Yun Shuang.

In the second examination day, the library was fired and all of the test results burned away. Bao Zheng and friends found that Luan Wen Hao was killed and his body strucked by books. Under his body, there was the weed from the lake, so the students thought that Luan Wen Hao killed by the female ghost. And in the third examination day, they also found Xiang Tian Wen's dead body in the water with the same weed. One night, Bao Zheng frightened by a black shadow and ran out, then suddenly he beated by someone using the pillow. This people was Sai Zhong Yuan. He also frightened by that shadow and thought that Bao Zheng was that shadow and hit him. One day, Zhou Ba Jing suddenly became rich and didn't want to be a servant anymore. Some days later, he died in the lake. Everyone thought that Zhou Ba Jing was fell into the lake because he drunk, but Bao Zheng found that Zhou Ba Jing has a liver disease, so it was impossible for him to drink. It means that Zhou Ba Jing was also killed.

When Bao Zheng, Gongsun Ce, Zhan Zhao, Chu Chu, Fei Yan & Sai Zhong Yuan played together in the lake, Fei Yan and Sai Zhong Yuan fell into the water and Bao Zheng found that one of Sai Zhong Yuan's leg was wood. Bao Zheng who thought that the killer entered Xiang Tian Wen's body into the water by climbed the tree, found that the tree was painted by red paint. Bao Zheng concluded that Sai Zhong Yuan was the killer, because one of his leg was wood, so he can use the tools to go up to the mountain and go down again in the short time, it means that he can killed Xiang Tian Wen in a short time. And on Sai Zhong Yuan's hair, there was a red paint from the tree.

Gongsun Ce who walked near the lake, read the poem and found the secret of the poem, but suddenly someone poisoned him. Because of the poison, he looked like drunken people. Fei Yan who thought that this "drunken people" was followed her, hit him. Because of the poison and Fei Yan's hit, Gongsun Ce became unconscious and almost die. Bao Zheng & Zhan Zhao found that there was a poison in Zhou Ba Jing's body and this poison was the same poison with the one which poisoned Gongsun Ce. The unconscious Gongsun Ce mentioned "name" and then Bao Zheng who hear that also read the poem and found that in this poem, there was Yun Shuang and her boyfriend's "name". This name was Chui Ming Zhong.

Bao Zheng said to the officer that Sai Zhong Yuan was only a blacksheep. That red paint was painted by the real killer. When hit Bao Zheng, Sai Zhong Yuan's pillow was broke and then replaced with the new one. If Sai Zhong Yuan was the real killer, the red paint supposed to be found on his old pillow, but the red paint found on the new pillow. It means that this red paint added after Xiang Tian Wen's death by another people. Meanwhile, Zhao Zhao went to Qizhou to investigate about Chui Ming Zhong and Yun Shuang.

Bao Zheng made a trap to catch Chui Ming Zhong, he said that Gongsun Ce was already conscious. This news heard by Chui Ming Zhong and he came to killed Gongsun Ce, and in that time, Zhu Zhu caught him. In the court, Bao Zheng explained the way Chui Ming Zhong killed Luan Wen Hao and Xiang Tian Wen. Actually, Luan Wen Hao killed before the door shutted. Chui Ming Zhong put his body in the library and covered it by the books and in the next morning (the second examination day), he dropped the books, so Bao Zheng and friends saw the dead body. And Xiang Tian Wen was killed in the day before his body founded. In the first day, actually Xiang Tian Wen did the questions for the second day, in the third day first examination, he did the question for the third day second examination and so on (in the third day morning there was a heavy rain, so all of the student's examination papers were wet, and before the second examination, the rain was already stopped, so the papers were dry. But Xiang Tian Wen's examination papers were the opposite). That fire was also made by Chui Ming Zhong to covered his trick, so that no one knew that Xiang Tian Wen didn't do the first examination.

Zhan Zhao came back and said that Chui Ming Zhong used to be Yun Shuang's boyfriend. Yun Shuang gave Chui Ming Zhong money to went to the capital city and followed the examination and became officer. After that, Yun Shuang also went to the capital city and never back. Chui Ming Zhong pleaded guilty and said: when Yun Shuang arrived in the capital city, he already married Bang Xi Yan (Minister Bang's daughter), and then Yun Shuang commited suicide in front of him. Unfortunately, Zhou Ba Jing, Luan Wen Hao & Xiang Tian Wen saw it, so Chui Ming Zhong killed them to cover it. After pleaded guilty, Chui Ming Zhong commited suicide and Bang Xi Yan who saw her husband died, was also commited suicide.

And of course ... Gongsun Ce's live can be saved and he became conscious again.
